From its humble beginnings in 1842, in Racine, Wisconsin, to the global force in construction equipment it is today, CASE has always put its customers at the center of its product development and corporate decisions. The company’s founder and namesake, Jerome Increase Case, set the course early on by encouraging his employees to always seek new and practical innovations that would improve their customers’ productivity and businesses. The first result of this philosophy was a thresher that dramatically improved wheat production. But the company didn’t stop there. Jerome Case also understood the monetary cycle of farming and the pressures it placed on his customers. Recognizing that practical innovation wasn’t limited to simply machinery, CASE became one of the first manufacturers to offer credit terms to its customers—making modern technology more accessible to all. From there, more practical innovations kept coming. In 1884, CASE eliminated the need for draft animals by introducing a revolutionary steam powered traction engine that was self-propelled and allowed the operator to steer.
