Bicycle Diaries GARAGE REV

Hi all! Thank you to those who auditioned for this role in the first round, we felt like we didn't nail the specs and left our auditioners at a disadvantage! We'd like to try again, so if you auditioned before please don't hesitate to give it another go, following this info this time please! thank you!

GARAGE BIKE: Adult male, 20-35

Seeking voice for a web video to promote an urban cycling event. You’ll voice the role of a neglected bicycle, who’s been hanging upside down in a garage for a little too long. Should sound relatable and a little insecure.

Think Michael Cera or Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley).

Backstory:
Your owner bought you on fitness kick one summer, and for months you were inseparable. When it was too cold to ride, she hung up you in the garage for storage, and told you she’d be back soon. But winter came and went. Then spring, and then summer…

You pretend you don’t care—that you don’t need her. But every time she walks by, gets into her car and drives away, you can help but wonder what you’re doing wrong.

Please have a working home studio set up and ready to record (ISDN or Source Connect would be a bonus!). Budget is $300. Use is web buy-out. Video is 45-60 seconds long. thank you!

“GARAGE”

Open on close-up of car bumper in an open garage. Its bumper sticker reads: “My other car is a bike.”

We hear a door open, footsteps entering the garage, and the door closing out of frame. The footsteps continue and a woman’s feet enter the frame.

The car door opens, the woman gets in and the door closes. We hear the engine ignite. CUT to a wide shot of the car pulling out of the garage and away from the house.

We see a bike hanging in the empty garage and cut to a medium shot of the bike on the wall, in the midst of other items in storage.

We hear the garage door and the light gradually disappears.

BIKE (V.O.)
Mmhmm. There she goes again, free to come and go as she pleases…

CUT to a close up, and pan across the tires hanging on hooks.

I, myself, have not been out in a while. What with winter happening… six months ago.

CUT to another angle. A box labeled “winter clothes” sits on a shelf in the background.

BIKE (V.O.)
It’s just frustrating because I can tell it’s nice out, when the door opens, but…

CUT to the tiny crack beneath the garage door, where a sliver of light shines through.

BIKE (V.O.)
It’s really fine. It’s not like I’m not happy here either. I am, you know. I’m fine.

And there’s plenty to do here, too.

CUT to a shot of several license plates, lining a wall nearby.

BIKE (V.O.)
I played the license plate game for a couple of days; found 4 states. Turns out that one’s more fun on the road.

CUT to medium shot of bike and some objects nearby, including an old Baxter-brand toaster oven.

BIKE (V.O.)
Spent some time trying to get to know the neighbors; they’re mostly okay.

Not a fan of Baxter though.

Two simple, hand-drawn eyes appear on the front of the toaster oven. It blinks once or twice. CUT to another angle; the bicycle and toaster oven remain in frame.

BIKE (V.O.)
He thinks we’re the same.

CUT again.

BIKE (V.O.)
We are not the same.
