Kevin Robery

Foreign accents, American dialects, characters...

Voice Description

I have a rich and warm narrative voice and can pitch, pace and inflect as the need arises.

I love doing accents and can do US accents/dialects: "Yah you betcha" to the "Pah-ney Woods of East Tay-xas". From the "narly dude" valley-guy teenager to "pah-king mah cah in Bahs-ton".

Foreign accents include variations on British accents (King's English to Cockney to Aussie "dayn ehnduh"), German, Spanish/Mexican, French, Russian/Eastern European. Having visited India, I have a lot of fun with this accent.

I love doing characters, both real and imagined.

Interpretive reading is also a favorite. I am an excellent reader, I do not struggle with pronunciation, have a great working concept of grammer, colloquial and idiomatic speech, and am a quick study. I take direction well (as I am also an award-winning video producer and have been on that side of the mic). I also edit "NaturalReader" type voices for realism. I've been working with "Peter" quite a bit lately for a personal project. I can talk and read very fast as well.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

Ask me about my "Goofey" impersonation.

My Voice Experience

This has been volunteer work to save money at a Christian not-for-profit, Awana, where I worked as an award-winning video producer for nearly a decade. I did characters, narration, training, promos, PSAs, you-name-it. I am never bored with the material. I am never bummed if we have to do 50 takes if that's what the producer wants. I will make a doctor's prescription sound interesting...uh...if I could only read it!

My Training

I am an award-winning video producer and editor (Telly, NARB First Place Spot, Communicator Awards, New York Film Festival, etc.) I love to write, especially script, love interpretive reading, I compose original compositions, am an accomplished DAW/sequencer artist since the mid-80's. I play piano at an advanced to professional level. I am also an accomplished French Horn player at the collegiate level (Wheaton College Symphonic Band and Orchestra, Moody Church Orchestra, TMC Artist Circle member)

I am formally trained as an electrical engineering technologist with a B.S.E.E.T. I plan to further my education with an Masters in Clinical Psychology, all the while staying fresh and involved in media.

My Studio Equipment

I've worked for a short time at Sweetwater Sound, Inc. in Fort Wayne, IN, having gone through their comprehensive 13-week program in Sweetwater U.

I have a modest DAW setup running Sonar, Studio One, Audacity, with some old outboard axes from the 80's, Emu Proteus, Ensoniq Mirage Rack, Yamaha SPX900.

Software includes 100s of virtual instruments from Native Instruments, etc.

Additional Skills

Never pursuing voice-over work professionally until now, I have been around some truly talented professionals, such as your Ken Smith and another pro at VO work, Tracy Johnson. Also, with the WMBI, Moody Bible Institute and Moody Church connection, I am surrounded by pros like Wayne Shephard, Ted Sealy, Dave McAllister, and so many others. I know what I like and what sounds good. At the same time, I want to know what you like and make it sound good. I can't wait to get started! Call me!
