Warm*Friendly*Quirky*Sultry*Smooth*Rich

Voice Description

I am often dry, wry, sarcastic and irreverent. These qualities definitely come through in my voice work when appropriate. I can then flip that around and be sincere. You know: the warm, friendly, knowledgeable friend you trust.

I can also have a conversation with you. My voice can reassure you while gently, subliminally suggesting to you the right solution to whatever problem you're having. This works really well for commercials!

Quirky is hard to describe. But you know it when you hear it. My natural voice is definitely full of quirks. So I have "quirky" in the pocket.

Being able to use my upper, middle and lower registers lets me play with a myriad of characters' emotions and motivations. This comes in handy for animation and gaming. I can be young or old, good or bad, rich or poor.

The rich texture of my voice is also well-suited for audiobooks and documentaries. I am excited about and comfortable with narration because I am a natural-born storyteller. My ease with lengthy copy allows me to enrich it and enjoy the text.

Business presentations for training, sales, and web sites require a professional, authoritative type. I definitely fit the bill. My comfortable, resourceful, direct voice can be the one you need to reach your target audience of business professionals.

My Voice Experience

I won a screaming contest in Brooklyn several years ago. I was performing in a live radio play totally on a whim. That was my first taste of voice work and I loved it! The voice of this mortal coil was then immortalized by 31 Down when they produced their first CD collection of radio plays. Yes: CDs! So I guess you could say my voice over career began accidentally with one primordial scream.

I have been been dedicated to studying and honing my craft for a few years now. I continue to study and hone my craft through classwork and ongoing personal projects with friends and colleagues.

You should also know that I am a long-time veteran of improv. Which is to say, I love the stuff, and I've been involved with improv (off-and-on) for more than 15 years.

My Training

High School graduate of North Carolina School of the Arts.
B.A. in Drama from Dartmouth College.
M.F.A. candidate in Acting at Purdue University.

Produced "Friday Night Improv" in Charlotte, NC. This was a weekly summer series of nights for families to come together and play using theatre and improv.

Toured all over North and South Carolina as a member of Stageworks Theatre, using improvisational techniques to teach kids how to write short stories.

Toured all Charlotte, NC middle schools as a member of the violence prevention program produced by The Children's Theatre of Charlotte.

All of my work and training prior to my arrival in New York City in 2002 allowed me to develop my craft as an actor. Character development is key in theatre as is improvisational skill. I find this to be true for all voice over artists as well. Being able to connect to a character through text and make quick, varied choices that work are assets I possess.

--In NYC--
Theatre: Off-Broadway, off-off-Broadway
Film: 'This Revolution' (Woman-on-the Street interview)
Television: "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire"

My Studio Equipment

I do not have my own studio. I do have a desktop Mac (with Garage Band) and an iPad. I also have a Samson Q1UCW Handheld USB Microphone (with Cakewalk Creator). These allow me to download copy, upload an mp3, and keep in touch when I'm away from home.

Additional Skills

I am a fool for improv! I love it, it keeps me fresh, and it helps A LOT when it comes to voice work. My improvisational skills allow me to make quick, interesting choices.

I worked for a while at the local CBS News affiliate in Charlotte, NC. I started out as a Production Assistant. This included operating a camera for live broadcasts of the morning news. I eventually went on to become Floor Director for the early-morning newscast and Chyron operator for the late-morning show.

I also had a brief stint as a Production Assistant at Dartmouth College's campus radio station, prior to graduation.
