Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

I can perform accents in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Yiddish(female or male) I have found that it is equally important to project the mannerisms(even the tiniest sound out of that accent that all of the people of that language seem to do as it is to just master the accent.
First and foremost for me, the thing that is most important is to engage the listener immediately!

I have also done and specialized in creating voices for various animals. Mainly dogs and cats.I try to give them personalities that people immediately connect with. (Example) The series of commercials I did for the Pet Center had a naughty bully dog that went around the complex and gathered all the other dogs to get in trouble with him. He was clearly the bully and they each had their own personalities and reservations about it, but they gave into the Bully dog and went along with it, causing all kinds of trouble and taking the risk they would be picked up by the pound. I had to make this bully dog, very irresistible. Rather than have him mean and scary. I made him adorable and irresistible to the other dogs. This series was for a dog training class offered by the pet center. There business increased by over 100% so I am told.

French-I take on the mannerisms and inflections that they use, to put across the authenticity of the accent and character. The French have an inborn sexy quality to their language and mannerisms that no matter what they say, it sounds very provocative and enticing.

Spanish- I use different accents for different Spanish speaking countries. I use different inflections and pronunciations and idioms of the region or country to make it more authentic. I use my experience from living in these countries in executing this. For instance, the Spanish accent in Spain is much different from that of Mexico or Puerto Rico or or Latin speaking countries. In Mexico, people who live in Mexico City speak much different than people who live in a southern province where we are. I try to make that distinction when I do a voice-over with regard to what it calls for and what country or region it might be referring to.

Italian-Again I use my experience both from having lived in Italy and the people I was engaged with as well as having lived with a family, I was able to learn to copy all of the family members,such as the mother, father, children, etc. Example: Though they seem like they are screaming at each other during a meal, I quickly learned that it was an important part of how they communicated.

Yiddish- I grew up with my Grandparents in my house. They were from Russia and barely spoke English. Their first language was Yiddish. They gave me my first experience in taking on their thought process of trying to speak English. I was able to not only copy them, but bring in the sense of humor that is both humorous and emotional to the Yiddish language itself. This is very natural and 2nd nature to me.

Professional lyricist and composer (ASCAP). Have placed many songs in film and TV that were written and produced in English, French and Spanish.

Wrote, produced and recorded music CDs for several artists including Nina Storey.
