My Voice Experience

I got my start in radio back in college and did commercials for local businesses. I produced my own shows and later moved to the local Z-100 FM station doing the night shift. It gave me the time to explore my voice and delivery and producing ad content and other shows for the station gave me the skills to get the "right take".

Later, I moved to Aspen, Co. and worked at the local FM station there 103.1 KSPN. It was a great experience to have a "open format" and flexible schedule which allowed me time for one of my passions... Skiing!!

After, moving to Los Angeles, I have focused my talents on production and understanding the voice and how it can be a creative tool. I currently have a production studio in my house and enjoy delivering quality voice-overs to happy clients.

My Training

Since I've been in college, everyone I meet seems to recognize my voice. It's the old saying... "You have such a great voice for radio.." So, needless to say, I pursued this as a line of work. Taking a line with Journalism and Telecommunications.

I enjoy music, the "old school" WB cartoons as well as drama and theatrical arts and performance. I draw my creative influence from the many people I've met in the industry and the icons of the past.

I am very experienced with "The Voice" in its many forms and expressions. I have recorded many people and watched others produced by very talented people. I know how to deliver what a producer is looking for.

My Studio Equipment

I have a Mac/Protools setup at my house with a large assortment of production intensive Plug-ins. I monitor everything through a Yamaha O2R Digital console through a variety of speakers including; JBL 4328s and Yamaha NS-10s. I use microphones by Shure, AKG, Neuman and AEA as well as outboard Mic Pres by DBX, API, NEVE, Avalon and others. There are many "flavors" and choices that one can choose from when recording a voice, but my main concern is: Clean, Clear and Right!! Everything else is frosting and we all have our favorites.

I also have access to music libraries and sound effects if the production requires it.

Additional Skills

As I have stated. Because I have a studio in my house I am able to deliver just what is needed for your production. Fixes, late additions, changes and Redo situations are not a problem for me. My concern is delivering a quality product.

I will work with the client and/or producer to get you the take you need... FAST!! I can work quickly too and have the skills to produce my own spots. Let me show you the way voice work should really be done... Without the headaches!!

Best,
James
