JAMES A. WATSON, JR. BIOGRAPHY
James Watson has enjoyed a working career through four decades in San Francisco,
New York and Hollywood. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (Visiting
the U.S.) and has performed with major theater companies such as “The American
Conservatory Theater” in San Francisco, and “The Mark Taper Forum” in Los Angeles.
Mr. Watson has directed and Produced with his own theater company, appeared in 12
feature films, guest starred and appeared in over 90 television shows, commercials, T.V.
films and mini-series. “In the 1970’s through the 1980’s Mr. Watson established himself
as an “A list” actor in demand by the networks when few roles existed for minority
actors. His guest appearances on MANNIX, THE MOD SQUAD, KOJACK, LOVE
AMERICAN STYLE, GOOD TIMES, SANFORD AND SON etc. as well as re-
occurring regular roles on QUINCY and with Nell Carter in “GIMME A BREAK”
helped establish the face of the African American actor in TV and paved the way for
others to follow.”* During his adventures Mr. Watson has been fortunate to co-star with
the celebrated talents of Edward G. Robinson, Leslie Caron, Michael Crichton, Mary
Tyler Moore, Candice Bergen, Red Fox, Rob Reiner, James Coburn, Jeff Bridges and
Sidney Poitier in “THE ORGANIZATION”, and in Paramount’s “AIRPLANE II”.
Recent Television credits have included “THE DISTRCT”, “STRONG MEDICINE” and
“MEDIUM”. Mr. Watson has established a production company, Vision Entertainment,
and with associates, Producer Renee Valente and Director Oz Scott is writing and
developing feature films, stage and television projects. (* Except Oakland Tribune)
