David Straus

Guy next door, Edgy, Confident, Comedic

Voice Description

My voice sounds clear and grounded. It is deep enough for narration of all types, and playful for commercials. I can have a gruff edge to it (like narration in combat video games) or be lighter/comedic (think Modern Family).

I've voiced multiple cartoon characters, lip-synching for an episode of a European show that was being translated in English. I've done ADR to replace the voice of another actor in a movie of the week with David Carradine. I did a radio commercial for Oak Bay Cottages. I've also narrated an anti-GMO video.

Additional Skills

I've been a corporate communications consultant (dealing with presentation skills and getting your brand across to an audience) for over ten years with DCode Communications Inc.
I've also been an acting teacher for eighteen years, teaching workshops for Canadian Stage, Young People's Theatre, The Drama Workshop, Avenue Road Arts School, and Arts For Children and Youth.
I'm also a writer/producer of plays and short film. I put on my productions of 'Superhero' and 'ac-'TOR' in the Toronto Fringe Theatre festival, and 'The Twelve Animals of the Zodiac and The Passage of Time' with the Avenue Road Arts School to name a few. My wrestling spoof short films with kittens called 'Kitty Slam!' for which I performed half of the color commentary, can be seen on YouTube and funnyordie.com
I've also done over the phone coaching/customer roleplaying with e-roleplay, and I'm a patient/client roleplayer and coach with the Standardized Patient program at the University of Toronto.
