David Short

Mainly mid-Atlantic, Yorkshire, Liverpool, Welsh

Voice Description

Although I am 75 I have the natural voice of someone in the 40s.

I can be authoritative (I was a teacher and school administrator for over 40 years, and still do a couple of days a month as "Guest Principal"), expressive (I am an actor in community theatre and a number of commercial projects) for over 40 years.

I read well and without hesitation and know well how to modulate my delivery according to the subject.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

My background is English and I can do an "upper class" British, Cockney, Yorkshire, Liverpudlian, and Welsh accents easily. My natural BBC received and English West Country (Devon & Cornwall) accents actually come with more difficulty - i.e. I need time with a script to really nail it.
My normal (now) accent is slightly British-accented Canadian, but I can do some Southern States accents in "Take-off" mode!

My Voice Experience

Although I have no "voice" experience, my community acting and commercial experience spans many decades.

I was required to do a "Voice Over" for the TV series "Dead Zone"

I have acted in movies (Miracle, Ecstasy), Commercials (Frijj, Telenor, Aquassure), TV (Dead Zone, ACCESS TV - Alberta), Theatre (from Alan Ayckbourn, Beyond the Fringe, Mary Chase, Pantomimes, Kesselring).

My Training

BEd, Bristol University, England - Drama and Acting Teaching
MSC, Stirling University, Scotland - Public Relations
Studio On The Drive, Vancouver - Acting for TV & Commercials
Tom Todoroff - Acting

My Studio Equipment

No professional studio, but I have a latest Mac computer and recording and editing software for basic production.

Additional Skills

I consider myself a mimic. I pick up the cadence and presentation of a speaker and often find myself almost insulting them by unconsciously doing this.

In France recently I was complemented on my accent (even though my grammar was atrocious!)
