Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
I am from Kentucky, so a slight southern accent comes naturally, however I have had training on how to reduce my accent. I have a great ear for picking up other accents and dialects. While my natural voice is low tenor/baritone, I have many different voices and characters and I enjoy being able to be creative and come up with them. I have several different "announcer" voices, and drill instructor voices, nerdy voices, nervous guy, slow guy. Some of the impressions I do include Barney, Gomer Pyle, Gunnery Sargent Hartman, Sling Blade, lots of other impressions that aren't exact, but you know who I mean.
My Voice Experience
Do not let my current lack of experience turn you away, I make up for it with lots of heart and passion. I have done mostly small, local voice over projects for limited audiences. I have done voice work for various theatre projects in the past. I do have experience doing voice work in a professional studio, and a very small radio station. I am constantly learning and gaining experience in my own home studio.
I hold a bachelor of science in theatre arts from the University of Louisville. Along with this I have had three years of voice training. I participate in different acting workshops from time to time. I took a one day voice over workshop at a local recording studio, which ended with a professionally produced voice over reel and a better understanding of the voice over business. I am perfecting my knowledge of sound recording and using Pro Tools.
My Studio Equipment
I use Pro Tools 10 through my laptop. It is connected to an Avid Fast Track Duo interface. My microphone is a AT2020. The mic has a shock mount and pop filter connected to the stand. A Sterling Audio vocal microphone shield is mounted behind the microphone to help with room ambience. In addition to this, I have constructed a very effective sound booth about the size of phone booth. I control the mic with a foot switch inside the booth. This booth along with the vocal shield does a very good job of removing echo and reverb, sound deadening, and dealing with less than perfect room conditions.
I have always been passionate about making up characters and doing different voices. I enjoy acting in all capacities and work on various theatre and on camera projects. I enjoy getting inside a characters head I am not afraid to try new things or be bold and I can take direction.
