Charles Cosgriff

Offbeat, friendly, casual and familiar. Comforting

Voice Description

I have a somewhat high pitched voice, but it is very familiar and comforting. It can easily be made frantic and can be used to make things sound incredible or unbelievable. I feel that I can go over the top for the sake of comedy or cartooning, yet stay even keel for documentary or educational purposes. It is an unusual voice; indeed I was told by a television personality that I had a future in the Cartoon Network. Mine is a fun and sometimes incredulous voice.

My Home Base

, Michigan, United States

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

I can do American Southern with ease, a straight midwestern tone and I think the stereotypical Canadian and British accents as well. I can improvise goofy voices. Speaking of which, I can impersonate Goofy singing Hey Jude reasonably well.

I have been told that I can sing reasonably well, if that means anything.

My Voice Experience

What entices me to seek voice work is a short interview which I was picked to do at Comerica park last summer. It aired on the Detroit Tigers pregame show on July 22, 2009 and is on You Tube under Charles Martin Cosgriff. I am very comfortable in front of the camera and the microphone, as the clip demonstrates. It was completely improvised, obviously, as I was picked out of the crowd, but it shows my comfort level well.

For several years I wrote, edited and delivered commentaries for the Michigan Conservative Union on radio stations in Michigan.

My Training

BA History, University of Detroit. I taught Adult Education for over 20 years, which has helped tremendously in being able to relate things to people of various ages and groups.

I write for Examiner website.

I have some in studio experience with my radio commentaries, and I have a voice demo made at Ringside studios in Oak Park, MI.

My Studio Equipment

I have high quality microphone and recording sysyrem which my son operates for me.

Additional Skills

I am very comfortable in front of the mike and/or the camera. My teaching experience allows me to reach people effectively within their comfort zone.
