I began doing radio spots in Washington, D.C. My jobs there included being the signature voice of a local cable TV station. I recorded answering machine messages for several D.C. companies, and ultimately was hired as a radio traffic reporter for Metro Networks. Once I relocated to the Palm Springs, CA area, I continued doing radio commercials, and was hired as a news anchor/reporter for KNWZ radio in Palm Springs, where I stayed 14 years. During that time I won an Addy Award for my role as a ditzy blonde waitress in a spot for "Richard's Country Kitchen." I also created and hosted an entertainment/interview show on KNWZ called "The Desert Scene." I continue to do radio spots for groups including Animal Samaritans, Vepygen (an anti-stretch mark creme,) Lifestream Bloodbank and Eisenhower Medical Center.
I was a vocal music major at Towson State University for 2 years. I spent a year at the Maryland Academy of Dramatic Arts, where I received training in speech and radio commercial presentation. I have studied acting and voice privately for more than 20 years, and have performed on stage many times, as well as on television and in industrial films. My studies included several journalism and radio/tv production classes at Montgomery Community College in Maryland. After moving to California, I studied voiceovers with Samantha Paris of Voicetrax.
I have just recently put together a home studio with a Blue Yeti microphone and a laptop with the Audacity program.
In addition to my performing experience, I have a great deal of knowledge about the mental health industry. I myself have survived depression and have written about the subject. I have also been a member of the Riverside County Mental Health Board for the past three years. Spirituality is another one of my passions. I work part time as the manager of spiritual shop called "Buddha By the Sea."
