Now, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seotrafficlab.com\/blog\/the-history-social-media-marketing\/\">73% of 30-49 year-olds are using Facebook<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While this may show signs that traditional social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram are growing and becoming steady, it\u2019s important to note that by the time the slower generations catches up to the mainstream, the new technology and trends are already making headway. In a similar fashion, traditional social media marketing (think affiliate marketing and influencers) has already seen its golden days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/charlesngo.com\/affiliate-marketing-dead\/\">Charles Ngo, thought leader in affiliate marketing<\/a> with 75,000+ readers a month, says \u201cAffiliate marketing isn\u2019t dead yet, but it\u2019s past its glory days. Not at all. In fact the stats say that <a href=\"https:\/\/outgrowco.medium.com\/is-affiliate-marketing-dead-heres-the-truth-you-need-to-know-957e5f5edba7\">affiliate marketing spending in the U.S. has been steadily growing<\/a>. Affiliate marketing also accounts for 30% of sales for advertisers, and is responsible for 16% of eCommerce in the U.S. and Canada. Globally, the industry is worth $12 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So when we say divest from Instagram and Facebook, we\u2019re not saying you should cancel them completely. Chances are you\u2019ve successfully grown your business in the past years using them, and it\u2019s not worth giving it up. But what we are saying echoes Charles\u2019 thoughts: the golden age is over. Saturation. As it stands, social media marketing is saturated with affiliate marketing, and will continue to saturate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For audiences, this becomes boring. We grow tired of seeing the same things, the same way products are presented, the same way the influencer praises the sponsored products. It\u2019s starting to feel a bit methodical, even a bit insincere, if not downright fake. And when things become insincere, that\u2019s when you really start to lose an audience. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/business\/en\/blog\/6-takeaways-from-our-latest-kantar-study\">It\u2019s no surprise then that consumers may be more receptive to advertising on smaller networks<\/a>, like TikTok and Pinterest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thinking TikTok et al<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These newer platforms (<a href=\"https:\/\/voice123.com\/blog\/trends\/why-tiktok-is-the-best-place-to-market-your-business\/\">TikTok<\/a> in particular) have found a way to capture people\u2019s attention. The content is fresh, entertaining, trend-setting, inspiring, and most importantly, the content is genuine. It\u2019s the average Joe who\u2019s making entertaining TikToks, not the supermodel influencer. That makes it so much easier to connect with the content. Not everyone is a supermodel, but most people certainly have a chance to do a simple TikTok dance and get millions of likes. What\u2019s also nice about these smaller platforms (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.voice123.com\/blog\/tiktokarticle\">heads up, TikTok won\u2019t be \u2018small\u2019 for much longer<\/a>) is that there simply aren\u2019t as many ads on them. Divest from the big players, invest in places that aren\u2019t so saturated. But it\u2019s also about more than just saturation, it\u2019s about using these smaller platforms because they connect with audiences in genuine, creative and inspiring ways!
