Bailey Saul

Full, gentle to obnoxious, characters, wide range

Voice Description

Solid, full baritone with a wide range of timbre, tone and intensity, from smooth and romantic to hard edged drill sergeant, I have the gamut. Trained as a stage actor, singer and wind instrument player (trumpet and improvisational Irish flute or penny-whistle), I am a very good sight reader in music and prose. Also creative and playful, I have characters in me who have yet to see the light of day. Emotional range from empathetic to obnoxious, sweet to angry.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

I can do solid Western European accents from French, German, Italian and Spanish, to most of the English speaking accents like Irish and Scottish to Australian and South African, and am a very quick study on new accents. I tend to unconsciously mimic the accents I'm hearing anyway, despite resisting this tendency. I can also do a passable Indian (East Indian I mean), Jamaican, Boston, southern US, Japanese/generic Asian, Russian,
Impersonations include Barbara Wawa singing Englebert Humperdink, (Pweez Wewease Me Wet Me Go), Tonto from the Lone Ranger, Lenny Bruce, any male opera star, Harvey Firestein, most Jim Backus characters except MaGoo, recognizable John Wayne, Foghorm Leghorn, Yosemite Sam and Daffy Duck, and a willingness to try anything.

My Voice Experience

Very little strictly voice over experience, but a long history of stage roles and music performances, as well as sales presentations, leadership of amateur sports organizations and associated speechifying and preszentations, so very comfortable reading or speaking off the cuff.
I've done amateur sportscasting for my summer ultimate frisbee rec league here in central NJ (available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rv30g-ERzFU&feature=related - I am the bald guy on the right) and performed professionally in several very well received cabaret shows in my twenties. I also directed a Jewish Temple choir for 10 years, until about 2009, and sang most of the baritone and tenor solos during that time.
I have great creative energy that i have been bottling for may years and want to get back to my first love, performing, whether as only a voice, or in front of cameras and live audiences, whatever seems best for my skill set. Take a chance, you may find a diamond in the rough...

My Training

Theater major in college, Case Western Reserve, only attended for 2 years, no degree. Have played roles from Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha and Littlechap in Stop the World I Want to Get Off, to Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, El Gallo in one production of The Fantastiks, and Matt, the male romantic lead, in another.
I have taken voice training classes, acting classes, stage movement, circus skills and acrobatics, modern dance and improvisation classes as well.
Cabaret experience ranged from original dramas to the music of Brel, Brecht, Kern, Arlen, Lerner and Lowe, Gershwin, Jule Stein, Rodgers, Porter, Bernstein and others.

My Studio Equipment

None to speak of, but more than willing to invest if it makes any sense long term. I do have access to at least one locally and will develop more relationships as needed.

Additional Skills

Sales and Sales Management, President of a non-profit summer league for 3 years, VP for 6, understand and value the consultative approach to sales and leadership, creative and original thinker with a very wide range of employment experience from cook on a tall ship to taxi driver and sales manager in the computer industry, to comedy club manager and emcee.
Character actor face with a leading man's voice, especially singing voice, and a retired athlete's body. (small gut and good muscle tone)
Typical reaction to my singing auditions is surprise, as the listeners just don't expect me to sound as I do for some reason. This surprise is always positive. And still amusing after all these years. I can also jam on Irish flute as if I was born with it, but after 30 years of playing I should be able to do this.
