My Voice Experience
I confess to arriving fairly late on the scene of professional voice work (at age 50!), having been asked to do some work for a friend who is a radio presenter at my local station Phoenix 98 FM, last Spring. The results were received very favourably and I have been advised to explore further opportunities. The work consists of promotions for shows and "You're listening to..." announcements during shows. I continue to provide voice work in this way for Phoenix FM. Although I have no formal/professional background in voiceover work, I have been told many times that I have an extremely flexible, adaptable voice and have frequently been asked to do readings for various occasions. During my work for BBC Radio (1979-88)I was often selected to man the telephones for phone-in programmes on Radio 4 such as "Tuesday Call" and Radio 2 telethons such as Children in Need, being told I have a warm and distinctive speaking voice. I would welcome the chance to expand and further my potential, thus gaining more experience to increase opportunities for professional work.
BBC Radio 1979-1988 Public Affairs: Telephone work for "Tuesday Call" programme on Radio 4; Greeting listeners and taking pledges for the Radio 2 Children in Need Telethon; public speaking in various settings, ie, churches, concerts, speeches and presentations; quiz mistress; interviewing elderly local community for their recollections of the War years.
My Studio Equipment
Not applicable at present.
I have a wide range and can adapt my voice to whatever situation or atmosphere is required, effecting anger, empathy, outrage, excitement. I have been told I am a good mimic with an ear for observing details such as pitch and tone in the voices of others.
