Voice Description

Flexible and trained, animated and accessible. Those are just a few ways to describe my voice abilities -- which include British accents, southern drawl, loud and over-the-top New Yorker and many others. I can dial it up for humorous radio spots and dial it down for the more restrained, mature corporate presentations. Most of all, the projects to me are a collaborative effort, and are about me delivering exactly what the customer, director and producer want. I studied Spanish in high school and college, and am comfortable with basic conversational Spanish, with a firm grasp of annunciation and accent. I have a strong, tenor, soulful singing voice as well.

My Voice Experience

My desire to break into voice-over work was sparked by voice mail and on-hold greetings I did for Bridal Show Expo, a bridal company in Chicago. It was my first time. I shifted my delivery to match the brisk and confident baritone needed for the job, which turned out to be very successful and is likely to continue in the future. References available. I’ve also spent quite a bit of time in recording studios doing self-created music demos, and on stage performing in vocal-related events. Despite limited commercial work, the bottom line is that I have full grasp of my instrument and know how to use it! See “Additional Skills” for more.

My Training

Voice training is universal. With years of experience in both group-choral and individual-voice training, I've learned that diction and annunciation are critical to executing a convincing vocal, as well as the jobs that I hope to take on as a voiceover artist – for radio, television, podcasts, on-hold recordings and voicemail greetings. I also have relative pitch, which gives me the ability to hear myself and those around me in a unique way. For example, a number of my friends are voice over singer/actors/artists and I’m always able to spot their voices in new television and radio ads.

Additional Skills

I’d be perfect for those and other jobs because I am an experienced marketer and have been selling myself as a freelance writer, photographer, editor, designer, artist, blogger and Web programmer for years. I have product development skills, corporate communication experience and PR abilities that would help support my approach to voice projects – which are, at their core, a verbally communicated marketing message. Lastly, I don’t think you can approach projects like these without a creative, artistic touch – a unique strength and perspective that I also bring to the table.
