Voice Description

Straight warm deep voice with reflections on certain words for effect. I've had a client once tell me, "wow can you sell pancakes!"
I can read Spanish well, even though I'm not always sure what I'm reading. I try to stick to English though.
When I worked in the north here I was told I had a slight southern accent...but when I worked in the south, I was told that I have a Yankee accent.
All my flaws (that I'm aware of) seem to disappear when the microphone is on.
I've always done straight forward copy but would love to get involved with cartoon voices.

Did an old man character named Hokey in the 70's at several radio stations. (a Gabby Hayes type)

My Voice Experience

I got this opportunity to be a DJ at age 14 at a non commercial radio station and soon discovered that there is no inoculation for the radio bug.

By 16, our high school started a radio station and I was one of the first people they called.

In the 70's I started off with WSCH in Aurora, Indiana and then WCNW in Fairfield, Ohio. I got my first decent gig as afternoon drive and production director for Rockin 143 WBUG near Hilton Head Island playing Top 40/Pop...and at the same time on weekends did W-reaches the beaches-BEU on Beaufort Island, also Pop(it was 30 miles away so they couldn't complain.) From there I went to I-94 WSAI-FM in Cincinnati playing soft rock. In 1980 I went to Lexington, Kentucky as morning drive and production director for the Country Giant WAXU AM/FM.

In 1985 it was to Middletown/Dayton Ohio for a fun two-man morning midday show and as Program Director, my favorite job yet.

By 1987, I became so 'in to' Country music that I published my own entertainment newspaper while doing late nights (10p-2a) at Beaver 96 1/2 WBVE
in Cincinnati

Should I go on? Fine! I got tired of moving and wanted the kids to grow up in the same house so I stayed in town and became a salesman while working on air part time at 55WKRC and AM 1530 WSAI and picking up any free lance that I could find. I still keep busy on weekends with my mobile DJ service of 25 years

My Training

My experience in radio started young as an on air discjockey, ad salesman and mobile DJ before I was 19.

I attended the University of Cincinnati and majored in Language Arts and received an Associates Degree in Communications.

I also attended Columbia Broadcasting and Communications taking both of their courses of Announcing and Writing. After taking this two year course I received my Certificate of Completion.

I've attended a couple of production seminars conducted by Dick Orkin.
