Voice Description

There are many sides to my voice, but it can be generally referred to as Mellow, smooth quiet, a bit deep and instructive. I can work oujt of eithe a middle or deep register for serious promotion and commercial work. I can do commercials in a variety of ways from high excitement to soft and caring to a little growly and harsh--a bit on the 'Dark Side' for movie trailers and video games. The low side of my voice (which is also the instructive side) is especially good for exposé type popular narratives and documentaries. I can appear factual when dealing with technical products and casual when the need is for a more upbeat delivery, especially when offering to convince the listener to use a product he might not ever consider using. All together there are five different age groups inside my voice. One is a young adult male. He is not good for selling products or services but he works well in cartoon characters and video games. Then there is the middle aged man who is a of course more seasoned. He sells products. Thirdly there is the senior citizen who is a bit raspy in places. Fourthly there is a little kid I made up. His name is Larry Baker and he has a few friends that I have different voices for also. And there also is a teenager bordering on manhood. These are again only for cartoon characters and video games. Here in the opening montague you will find various age groups along with a few impersonations of well know personalities.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

OTHER THINGS I CAN DO WITH MY VOICE: I can characterize my voice to represent products as a blue collar worker from Chicago or New York or a a cowboy from Texas. I can do a James Garner "Rockford Files Oil man type, you know 'Jimmy Joe Bob' who wants to drill a hole in your front yard. I can go from a good impression of Clint Eastwood to a little kid. I can impersonate a New York Cab driver, the Gieco Geko, Tattoo of Fantasy Island, Yoda from Star Wars, Dopey the old Mel Blank cartoon Dog, old black and white film gangsters such as Cagney and E. G. Robinson. I mimic Bill Clinton, the Aflak Duck and I can sound a little like Donald Duck. I CAN DO MANY ACCENTS: Irish, Scottish, British, German, East Indian, French, Caribbean, Swedish Ausi just to name a few. I can do steamships and tugboat fog horns communicating with each other.

My Voice Experience

When I was seven years old I listened to radio news casters and announcers and learned to speak early on with a Midwestern accent. I grew up sounding like I was never born in Texas.
I started out as a radio disk jockey in 1972 with KYED a small station in Pasadena, Texas. My first recording was made when I was a junior in High School. I recorded the entire short story of Edgar Allen Poe's The Tell Tale Heart on a phonograph disk with a neighbor kid who had a small turn table recording setup.

My Training

I hold a degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Houston where I performed in many dramas, comedies, and Channel Eight TV productions. I have been through Radio Broadcasting School. Neil Thomas, a Canadian machine gun announcer was my voice coach. I have trained at the Herbert Bergoff Studio for acting in New York City. I have completed the Alley Theatre’s apprentice training program for actors. I have performed in plays such as Brigadoon, A Thousand clowns, Melodramas in Estes Park Colorado, The King and I and the French Comedy, Tartuffe. I am currently meeting with Texas film makers to do character parts in upcoming productions.

My Studio Equipment

I operate out of an ADOBE AUITION PROGRAM, set up on my PC, Adobe Audition .03, one of the best and most expensive downloadable recording studios Adobe has to offer. I use a USB plug and play high fidelity recording microphone. I record directly in the MP3 format and export my finished audition directly to my desktop. From there I upload to Voice 123 where it is reviewed for quality before sending it on to you, the client. My equipment produces a standard quality sound for average everyday listening audiences, however, when necessary there is a local environmental studio that I use by appointment only to turn out products that require a higher degree of quality in the final analysis. You would only have to pay for my studio time. Most environmental studios only record talent one day out of the week, usually on Thursdays. My studio is reasonable at only $75 per hour. It never takes more than one hour to grind out a good product. The average listener will probably never know the difference, but I'm always willing to go that extra mile for the client.

Additional Skills

I have taught acting and television classes for Barbizon Schooling of Modeling. I also paint and draw and write. Currently I am finishing a Science Fiction novel. I learned to write commercial copy in radio school and can also create visual cartoon characters for animated promotions. I am computer literate. I am a people person and I consider myself a student of human nature.
