My Voice Experience
In 1978 60" of snow fell in 24 hours in Rhode Island. That's five feet! That's when at age nine my quest to be a meteorologist began. It's been a great ride so far...
In 1991 I worked at a telecommunications company called ETC Electronic Telecommunications Inc. As a meteorologist I maintained forecasts on the network of time-temperature weather audio equipment across the country. Broadcasting the weather to telephone systems in Virginia, Georgia, and Illinois was part of the job and performed daily.
From there The Weather Channel hired me to be a Radio Meteorologist and Weather Forecaster. I would produce and deliver the weather to most major and medium markets across the United States.
Then my television career took off in 1995 where I was a weather anchor for all the newscasts for NBC in Raleigh North Carolina. I covered everything from fun interactive stories, to hard hitting Hurricane Coverage, or hosting a half hour show covering a Presidential Visit. There were several promotional commercials done having us say and do a variety of copy for television and radio.
In 1999 the Lord led me west to Boise Idaho where I was the Chief meteorologist for a local station up to 2009. I handled radio weather for about five years having to go sell and produce my own advertising to get paid. I can read a 30 second copy live as good as anyone in the industry! In most cases the customer wouldn't understand how to write for 30 seconds so I would re-write most and deliver it on time each morning.
My Training
Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from Plymouth State College (Now a University) in New Hampshire.
College Radio, Speech courses.
In Atlanta attended a course in Acting for Television and Film. This was great! Improvisation, stage work, and commercial work were all studied. I was also and extra in the blockbuster hit movie Boxing Helena.
Had many reviews and meetings with broadcast consultants through the years and have worked with various radio personalities in the industry.
My Studio Equipment
I've used various softwares like Cool Edit and currently use Cakewalk Music Creator to produce and edit .mp3 files. I use a Unidirectional Dynamic Microphone. For most of my radio work I would email forecasts and commercials to the radio station. The broadcast quality was very good. I have extensive experience in using Getner systems in my television days and working at The Weather Channel. If needed I have contacts with recording studios locally.
Additional Skills
I own and operate a Weather Forecasting service done primarily in audio. I update forecasts daily for major cities and US interstates across the country.
I have talked to thousands of students in schools about weather over the years and have been the emcee of many community events.
I don't want to assume that all understand that the reading of scripts and walking and talking for promotional events in television are very common. My skills are pretty solid in this department.
