I once took a temp job selling wine over the phone to top executives and big business leaders.
We had a standard speil which i soon adapted: We started with "[good morning, am I speaking to the MD, Mrxxx?"
Client: "Yes this is Mr xxx, how can I help you."
I took on a light warmer conversational tone,
me: "My name is Veronica Pickard ( pause)(drop the voice a notch) I'm calling you from Rxxx winery-
"do you drink pinotage? " then , a depreciative "Sorry, that's MY favorite,(followed by a little laugh)but then I'm sure you're a busy man.. do you have a minute for me?
