Voice Description

My voice is a 1st Alto or 2nd Soprano voice range that can stretch to a 1st Alto. I am a High School Theatre teacher with great breathe control, vocal range, AND VOCAL CHARACTERIZATION. I train students on using their vocal range. I have had numerous successes. My students have earned the Samuel French Award (Best Performer of the Day at One Act Play Competition) under my direction at State U.I.L. competition, for example. They mimic my example. Now, I am interested in deveoping my work on the side. I am a widow of three years and interested in exploring new directions a result. I have a son age 20 who is great at dialects too. If this turns out to be promising for me I will tell him and my daughter age 15 about this too. I am a great cold reader. I have great reading abilities and microphone experience in Public Speaking. I want to do commercials, acting, voiceovers, voicemail greetings, etc...

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

I have portrayed several distinct accents throughout the years as an actress on stage: "British upper class" as the Mother, Sheila, in The Reluctante Debutante; a "Dutch" accent as Mama in I Remember Mama; "Russian" radio announcer in Lil' Abner; Italian accent in Daughters. I have taught Australian, Irish, and British dialects to my high school theatre classes.

My Voice Experience

I have been an actor, director, ... since 1971 in a nonprofessional way through schools and education. I have decided to develop my own talents after 25 years of just making a living. I am more interested in this since I am nearing retirement as an educator and will soon have more time to pursue another career.

My Training

I earned my B.S. in 2nd Education from Baylor University in 1978 in Speech, Theater, & English.
I have attended Texas Educational Theater Association's Theatrefest through the years and picked up coaching tips from David Allen Stern, famed dialect coach as he appeared at TETA Theatrefest in 1990. I have purchased many of his dialect tapes and have a great ear for mimcing dialects. Irish, Russian, Cockney, Standard British, Italian, and Spanish are a few of the one's I have successfully used in my body of work. I am trained in music to read and sing. I have been in choir through junior high to college years (Paris Jr. College, McLennan Community College, & Baylor University). I competed in UIL Solo ^ Duet Acting in high school & college winning numerous Superiors and Excelent Ratings. I have served in church choirs, Christmas shows, musicals (Lil' Abner in '75 at Paris Junior College as Assistant Director and 3 Bit Parts --a Russian commentator, a hillbilly girl, an American news reporter parts), played a Grandmother in Daughters, an Italian-American family play) ... I have studied in numerous vocal workshops through the years under theater directors acting workshops at Tyler Junior College, Tyler, TX; professors at Baylor

My Studio Equipment

I have my own home computer and personal computer microphone. I am able to record and burn my voice overs to CD or DVD. I can attach a recordingto an email and forward it to a destination. Or, I can use my Screen Play editor to record a voice over and burn itto VHS or DVD format from it.

Additional Skills

This is my first endeavor to try a new career besides doing real estate for a brief 3 years. Doing it part time and being successful showed me I had salesmanship skills. I successfully made a profit at it. I had to use my voice and wits. I heard comments like your voice sounds so different over the phone than in person. I would use my deep vocal range over the phone. Men commented it sounds sexy. I know how to change my voice.
