2.Introductions for North Air Purifying Respirator(Include translation and dubbing-total:62 mins)

Getting a good Fit
Let’s start with fit, extremely important. You want to be sure there is least possible leakage between your face and the facepiece. Otherwise there is one from contaminants to get through. So when you first fit it for the North respirator, you start out by finding the size that fits most securely and comfortably on your face. Before fit testing begins and then every time you are about to go into contaminated environment, you need to do a positive and negative pressure seal check. For positive pressure seal check, you block the exhalation port with the palm of your hand and then exhale gently into the facepiece. If the facepiece seals correctly, it will bulge slightly and you will notice an increase of the air pressure inside. If it’s a poor seal, you’ll not feel the air pressure built up, but you’ll sense the air leaking out. For negative pressure seal check, you block the cartridges of filters with your palms and then inhale gently so that the facepiece collapses slightly and hold your breath for about 10s. If the seal is poor, the facepiece will remain collapsed. If it leaks, you may only have to re-position the facepiece, so readjust the straps. Remember positive and negative pressure seal check should be done every time you put on your respirator to work in a contaminated area. That way, you are always sure it’s functioning properly and it seals the way it should. Now the other part of fitting process is done less frequently: quantitative and qualitative fit testing. The kind of tests depends on your company. Quantitative fit test is pretty involved operation and it isn’t practical for everyone. Qualitative fit tests, such as irritant smoke or Bitrex test, are simple, quick and easy. The irritant smoke test should be performed in a area with adequate ventilation and you should keep your eyes closed. Once you become accustomed to your facepiece and performed the required user seal checks, the test operator will then direct a stream of smoke from the smoke tube towards the sealing edge of your facepiece. You’ll then be instructed to perform several exercises in the following manner: normal breathing, deep breathing, turning the head side to side, leaving the head up and down, talking（…）, bending over, and normal breathing again as in the first exercise. If you detected the irritant smoke anytime, the test failed. Upon completion of the test, you are being questioned regarding the comfort of the facepiece. If it’s uncomfortable, another size or model should be tried. Another fit test, the Bitrex test is conducted in a hood. A Sensitivity solution is atomized into the hood while you are not wearing the respirator and again while wearing it. You are being asked to go through the same exercise as you saw for irritant smoke. And if you taste the Bitrex, you know the facepiece doesn’t fit right and you may need to adjust your facepiece or require a different size or model facepiece. Fit testing is one of the key elements in getting your North protection from your North respirator. After that it’s really up to you to make sure that your North half mast or full-facepiece respirator is always doing a good job. That means checking it every time you are going to put on. Take a good look at it. How about the facepiece? Any cracks, holes, tails, wrinkles? Is it dirty? Make sure you’ve got all the valves inhalation and exhalation and they are clean and flat. The sealing surfaces of facepiece should be clean and not disturbed. If you wear a full-facepiece, also check the piece to see whether the lens crack and straps are loose. Check the head strips, they should not be loosening the elasticity or breaking. Does the buckles or the attachments are all right? If you find any parts of respirator are damaged, missing or not working properly, see your supervisor to make sure they will be replaced.

现在开始装配，这非常重要。必须确保面部与面罩之间的泄漏尽可能小。否则污染物会从中通过。所以，第一次装配时，要找出大小合适，戴在脸上最稳固最舒适的NORTH呼吸器。装配测试开始前或每次准备进入污染环境前，需要做正负压密封检查。做正压密封检查时，首先用手掌堵住呼气口，再轻轻地向面罩内呼气。如果面罩密封良好，则会有轻微膨胀，同时感到内部空气压力增加。如果密封不好，则感受不到空气压力增加，而是感到空气泄漏出去了。做负压密封检查时，首先用手掌堵住过滤器筒，然后轻轻吸气，面罩此时会轻微凹陷。屏气约10秒钟，如果密封不好，面罩会保持凹陷。如果泄漏，就只能重新定位面罩，因而重新调节绑带。记住：每次进入污染区域工作要配戴呼吸器之前，就应该进行正负压密封检查。这样便可随时确保其功能正常并且起到了应有的密封作用。装配过程的另一部分并不需要经常进行，即：定量和定性装配测试。此类测试取决于公司。定量装配测试是一项费力费神的操作，并非适合于所有人。定性装配测试，如刺激性烟雾测试或BITREX测试，既简单、快速又容易。刺激性烟雾测试应在有充分通风的区域进行，同时要闭上双眼。一旦适应了面罩而且也进行了要求的用户密封检查，测试操作员会拿烟管将一缕烟雾对准面罩密封处。接下来，会被指导做以下动作：正常呼吸、深呼吸、向两侧转头、上下移动头、说话(……)、俯身以及像第一步动作一样正常呼吸。如果发现有刺激性烟雾，说明测试失败。测试完成后，要询问面罩的舒适度。如果不舒适，则应尝试其它尺寸或型号的面罩。另一种装配测试就是BITREX 测试，这是在一个头套里进行的。戴上或不戴面罩时，将一种敏感性溶液以雾状喷入头套，并要求执行刺激性烟雾测试中的所有动作。如果闻到BITREX，就说明面罩装配得不好，需要调节面罩或应该使用其它尺寸或型号的面罩。 装配测试是得到NORTH呼吸器保护的关键因素之一。测试完后，就由你自行确保NORTH半面罩或全面罩呼吸器使用良好。就是说，每次佩戴呼吸器时要做检查，仔细看一下呼吸器，面罩如何？有无裂缝、孔、痕迹、皱褶？是不是脏了？确保所有吸入和呼出口正常，且干净平整。面罩密封表面应该干净且没受到影响。带子是否松了？检查头带是否失去了弹性或断裂了？卡扣或附件对不对？如果发现呼吸器的任何部件损坏了、丢了或失效了，与主管人联系确保更换这些部件。

Alternative Methods
Now I’m going to talk a little bit about some alternative methods for searching for explosives. Earlier I’ve mentioned a proximity sensor; this gives us a distance which is the optimum for detection. However, in some cases, such as an example, a trunk filled with bulk explosives, you can be further distance away and still have an alarm. The ideal situation is to be close to the subject. However if you do have bulk explosives, there is an opportunity to alarm from several inches away. Also, we supply you with a clean wipe source, a circular disk; this is excellent for doing large surface areas. If I’m going to inspect this table for example, I will wipe the table with the paper and pass the paper in front of the detector; again, whenever touching the detector, it will still get the explosives of the surface. An alternative method for searching will be using something like a paper towel. Paper towels are excellent trap for explosive particles of the surface. All you have to do is that same exercise: wipe the table looking for any fingerprints of explosives and then just search the paper towel with the explosive detector. So there are several different ways of using the trace detector and it’s all non-contact.
