Voice Description

It's one of those BBC English, white middle class voices that works well when you want to deliver a message with a touch of class, but not toffee-nosed. It's a voice that says 'I know what I'm talking about' that comes across as informative and educational, but doesn't talk down to people and works well in those territories that need an english speaking voice that isn't American. It's a voice that is easy to listen to and says 'you can trust what you're hearing and you're in safe hands'.

Cranked up a gear, that same voice can capture to radio the thrill of flying a paraglider or hurtling down a bobsleigh run.

Taken down a notch, it's a voice that can take the listener into a hypnotic trance or deep relaxation (I'm a past member of the British Society for Medical and Dental hypnosis)

My Voice Experience

I'm just me...not an actor who does voiceovers but someone who demonstrably understands science, medicine and technology and can communicate it in writing and by voice.

You won't be surprised to hear that I also like to communicate things that I find interesting- anything to do with aviation, things maritime or military and adventure sports.

My Training

There can't be many qualified dentists who also do voiceovers! Actually, I left general practice over 15 years ago for a career in journalism and PR and have never looked back, but the dental background from all those years back equips me better than most to handle the demands of conveying difficult medical, technical or science related topics- especially if I'm also involved in writing it!

In 1998 I graduated from London Business School's Sloan Fellowship Programme, which gave me a pretty good handle on the world of business, and I now run my own management training consultancy (Management Advantage Ltd) which specialises in the interpersonal skills that so often get overlooked. I spend a lot of my time presenting at business schools and corporates and know that my voice and persona goes down well with those from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds.

My Studio Equipment

Currently upgrading, and about the only thing that will stay the same is the anti-pop filter screen.

Preferred software of the moment is Goldwave.
