I develop web-based training materials for Navistar and International Truck and Engine. Part of this role includes laying down the voice tracks for the training modules. As people may tend to "zone out" when taking computer based training, my voice is an important part of keeping the learner engaged and attentive. I also do a lot of live classes. In both the web-based and live forums, I use variations in tone and tempo, emphasis on key points, and a positive energy throughout to make sure the audience stays with me.
In addition to developing training and teaching for a living, I'm active in community theater including speaking and singing roles.
Voiceovers are typically to entertain, to educate, or to persuade. In each of these categories it is important to get and hold the attention of the audience. My personal experience onstage, in front of classes, and in the online environment have made me adept at using the tones and inflection of my voice to communicate meanings and emotions beyond the basics included in the script.
