Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
Among my characters I can offer: A funny and seemingly wise and caring John Wayne; the potentially angry and urgent Chinese Dr. Ah Chu; the naive and likeable professional Aussie sailor -- mate Ian McCallister, a Humphrey Bogart detective, and the old and very uptight potentially explosive John Paste.
My Voice Experience
As the president of my own broker-dealer (157 employees at the peak) I was a daily guest and stand-in host on the controversial and often crazy OC-based financial radio station KMNY "Money Radio" 1600 AM for 17 years (1987-2004). I was the younger 30-40 year old -- pitted against the ranting sometimes raving 60-70 year old liberal, opinionated, unabashedly Brooklyn-Bronx Jewish New Yorka "Buzz" Schwartz.
It was my job to present an honest, even approach to investing and to offer an island of sanity among an endless stream of penny-stock pitching, futures "you can be a millionaire" type characters who came and went over the years. I wrote all the copy for (and cut) many hundreds of spots advertising my company's brokerage and financial planning services. I burned out in 2005 and left over $100 million plus in assets to my partner.
I was ready for a change -- which I certainly found upon teaming up with the world-renowned women's sexual health expert Dr. Jennifer Berman, MD. In 2005 I developed and produced the weekly 2 hour call-in show "'SEX RX' with Dr. Jennifer Berman" on 1150 (Radio America) in the Los Angeles market. I co-hosted the show with her and played the Ed McMahon role, and I sourced numerous advertisers and produced about 15 spots over a 6 month period. The show began at a Friday midnight slot and was moved to 9pm after several months and then to a 5pm slot.
An unfortunate (horse) riding accident in which I ruptured my spleen almost killed me, and a 2 month recuperation forced us to let the show go in 2006.
I have enjoyed my experience behind the microphone and look forward to making such work my new focus in life.
My Training
After graduating with a BA in English from UCLA (1981), I entered the advertising business (Benton & Bowles)in New York City, where I grew up. I started in media planning and within a year was handling Proctor and Gamble's Crest Toothpaste account.
After 2 years I jumped into account work on Frito-Lay at Foote, Cone and Belding. It was in this position that I began to understand what advertising and marketing was all about -- from defining goals, to understanding targets in focus groups, to developing comprehensive campaigns.
In 1987 I was hired as Director of Marketing for a regional Broker-Dealer in Los Angeles, where I was promptly installed as the firm's TV and Radio spokesperson on KWHY 22 and on the daily KMNY 1600am 'Buzz Schwartz" radio show.
My Studio Equipment
Samson CO1U Cendenser Microphone, Audacity.
Additional Skills
I built an entire company around my radio and TV shows, which represented 90% plus of our business. I was a top producer at PaineWebber, And a First VP at Prudential Securities (now Wachovia). The regulatory requirements necessary to supervise a broker-dealer led to my attaining 9 supervisory licenses from NASD.
After 17 years in the business, I exited without a single customer complaint ever having been found against me. This is something which is extremely rare in financial services and modesty aside I am very proud of this, and mention it here so that decision-makers can have some idea as to my inner character.
