My Voice Experience
Began as radio announcer in 19567 while in high school. Read newscasts, commercials and special program scripts. Continued working in radio during college years in Asheville, NC, Chicago and Waukegan, Ill. Narrated training films for U.S. Air Force for Niles Films in Chicago while a student at Northwestern University.
In 1960s and 70s voiced many commercials at various studios for the Charlotte, NC market. 1980s and 90s, did lead voice over work for WRAL-TV in Raleigh. Voiced hundreds of TV spots for local and regional distribution. Narration talent for: IBM, Burroughs Wellcome, Carolina Power and Light, SAS, Nortel, Law Enforcement Associates. Political spots for John Edwards Cawmpaign, local political races and promotional spots for Time Warner Cable.
Narrated award winning documentary about Titanic exhibition at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science.

Tom Lawrence Bio
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Tom grew up in the mountain town of Boone, NC graduated from Mars Hill College with an AA and from Northwestern University with a BA in Radio, Television and Film and a minor in Journalism. Having worked fifty years in the broadcasting and cable businesses Tom retired in March 2007 to spend time with family and friends and do some traveling.
He began his career while in high school and has worked as a broadcast television producer, director, manager, and news reporter. On camera reporting included hurricanes, tornadoes, plane crashes, crime, politics and general assignments. Tom was one of the first TV journalists to concentrate reporting on technology. The last four years of his career were spent with Time Warner Cable’s Raleigh division where he was Director of Government and Public Affairs responsible for internal and external communications and a production studio producing programming for Time Warner Channel 24.
Tom also has performed on stage in various roles in Charlotte and Raleigh and has served as spokesperson and actor in numerous corporate and commercial productions. His voice talents have also been heard in many radio and TV commercials and public service announcements in North Carolina and regional markets.
Tom continues to do voice work, produce television special programming and is expanding to consulting with emphasis in television news.

Wrote, filmed (before videotape was used in the field) and produced “The New Gladiators”, a one hour program featuring NASCAR drivers Fred Lorenzen, the late Bobby Isaac and others following them to Darlington, Martinsville and finally to the World 600. Was perhaps the first TV producer to place a motorized film camera in a car (Lorenzen’s) which was operated by the driver.
Produced two half hour programs on Ford’s efforts to win the 24 Hours of Daytona. First half hour featured building Ford Mark II’s at Holman Moody in Charlotte; second program featured the race itself.
First Union National Bank: As Assistant Vice President of Corporate Communications, developed one of the first corporate television studios in North Carolina.. Produced training programs and videotaped communications featuring senior management. Developed and produced MIS training series using creative multimedia which was sold to other companies including Caterpillar, Boeing, Mellon Bank and others.
Developed new presentation methods used by bank management during high-level meetings. Methods adopted by other Charlotte organizations upon seeing them.
Produced special multi-media program honoring outstanding Mecklenburg county high school athletes.
WRAL-TV Raleigh Managed 100+ person production department responsible for commercials and local programming. Oversaw capital, income and operating budgets of one million dollars aggregate per year.
Co-produced original high school musical titled “Burger Baby” which starred local high school performers and won a NATPE Award for “Best locally produced medium market entertainment program.
Produced the “Miss North Carolina Pageant” telecast live on a multi station state-wide network for five years.
As manager of WRAL-TV’s Fayetteville, NC bureau developed and produced a first- time-ever cablecast newscast by a local TV station serving a specific population. Recognized for project’s quality and uniqueness by several trade publications.
Shot first video of 82nd Airborne’s deployment to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield. Fed CNN and CBS News many reports during continuing air
borne deployments.
Only North Carolina TV reporter to fly to Florida in August 1992 the day after Hurricane Andrew and report live for several TV stations from Homestead, FL.
Developed, wrote, produced and reported a special segment almost daily about high tech news, personalities and products from North Carolina’s Research Triangle. Won awards for this work including the media award from the North Carolina Information and Technology Association.
