Voice Description
Welcome to Tom Buck Voice-Overs ... based in Sacramento, California ... where SAME DAY SERVICE is oftentimes available!
My versatile voice qualities and characteristics include: authoritative, resonant, deep, conversational, story teller, hard sell, soft sell, edgy, dramatic, friendly, mellow, and more.
Sample them by choosing one of the demos to your right. Some tips to guide you through the demo maze: While the "Spot" demo gives you a sampling of hard, medium and soft reads, I have also posted specific "Hard", "Medium" and "Soft" read categories to make for easier and quicker evaluation. Industry-specific reads such as "Automotive", etc. are self-explanatory.
As "The Voice Behind Your Script!" my years of voice over services experience provides you, the client, with a winning sound that is clear and with no regional affectations. You get perfection every time from Tom Buck, Voice-Overs.
Auditions are always welcome. I encourage custom auditions rather then generic auditions because generics are a shot-in-the-dark, while a custom one is a true representation of what I would sound like using your actual scripting.
I do it all and do it well. I have to because it is my FULL TIME vocation (since 1986) for which I am available most any time (Pacific time), prior commitments permitting.

My Voice Experience
As a former AFTRA member, I have been a professional voice talent, voice actor and announcer since before Internet popularity. I am currently a non-union v-o talent who voices exclusively for a living and have had years of radio and TV station experience before that, always on-air.
In my formative years, I had the knack of critically listening to voices then homogenizing them to create my own successful deliveries. And, I still listen, listen, listen to the competition for any additional tricks I may have missed.
I am the exclusive voice of 2 East Coast TV stations (8 years at Fox, 6 years at PBS); I have had past network experience as well such as the 10-year voice of "Hollywood Insider" on the USA Network along with a couple of stints on the Sci-Fi Channel, one as the narrator of "The Making of Star Trek Voyager" with Majel Barrett Roddenberry.
I am the voice of The Clapper and the Ove Glove as well as Sarna Anti-Itch Lotion. I've voiced for The California State Lottery "Daily Draws" nightly broadcast (which is on over a dozen TV stations in the State) for 10+ years now.
Off air, one of my most challenging jobs was in '06 when I became the voice of a professor emeritus at Sacramento State narrating his 300 page course by which students study for their IEEE (electrical) certification. The course was eventually picked up by the IEEE society itself to use as its official certification course.
In '07, I completed a challenging 80 min. narration for a student learning course for Sacramento County's Homeland Security division. Again, I stayed focused and enjoyed yet another long form experience!
I am the voice of a bevy of brand name homebuilders nationwide (Pulte Homes, K Hovnanian Homes, etc.) through a media company in San Francisco, CA for which I narrate instructional videos for builders' company employees and their home buying customers. These narrations typically are 20-90 mins. in length and are recorded, edited and uploaded to my FTP site for their download.
As you can see, my aim to please my clients (industry references available upon request) keeps them around for a long, long time. I would like to put my focused experience to work for you, too!
My Training
I have a BA in Communications from Sacramento State University. I started in radio at age 16. At 19, I attended Bill Ogden's Radio Engineering School in Huntington Beach, CA and obtained my First Class ("Ticket") FCC license; actually an engineering license, I never considered myself to be an engineer who fixes transmitters although I was licensed to do just that!
Upon graduation from Sac State, I entered the broadcasting field full time until 1986 when the climate changed for the worse and I totally pursued voice-overs with a passion after having done a bit of v-o work on the side since at least 1977.
I was signed to a half-dozen talent agencies in San Francisco in the late-80s and 90's and then, to compete more effectively, began an in-home recording studio when the Internet boom hit and decimated most traditional studio work, although I still occasionally record at outside studios today.
My latest professional award is a Promax Gold, Medium Market, for a television promotional piece I did for one of my East Coast stations.
My best trainers were my many directors over the years. Although I'm not really a character voice talent, I've done them and do a pretty impressive Don Pardo-like style (see CASINO RESORT demo).

Contact me for details).
NOTE: RADIO & TV PRODUCTION requires that the client provide his or her licensed music tracks and any effects. I will mix these elements together with my voice to the client's satisfaction. I do not provide music or effects.
Additional Skills
I have the talent to focus in on your direction and, indeed, I crave direction from a good director, to meet or exceed expectations. Or, leave me on "auto pilot" with just simple directions and I'll post the favorable results.
I know my audio programs and provide a terrific sounding product. I offer a clean phone patch system so that you may join in as my recording is in progress, if you so desire.
You won't find any "down time" here. In the rare instance there is a technical difficulty, a fully operational back up system is available by pressing a few buttons.
Additionally, I can "save" your session for future updates. My "matches" are magical. Trust me!
I offer postings on my FTP site in virtually any format, or I can send via e-mail. If CD or DVD is desired, no problem. Just name your file format.
If you read through all of this, congratulations and thank you very much! I hope you listen to the audio portion of the show as well.
