My Voice Experience
I started with a Southern accent as a lad, but started to expand the range when MONTY PYTHON started airing on the state PBS network--drove my Mom nearly insane with bits like "Spam", "The Spanish Inquisition, and so on. My first voice-related job was as an on-air personality at the local Country radio station (I was told that I had a natural announcer's tone) as well as a news reader. I brought these abilities to my next radio gig as well (a Country/Urban station) where I was told that I sounded like Peter Jennings when I did the news. As the years passed, I found that my voice was very elastic, allowing me a wide range of accents and characters. I was asked by a lady co-worker back in the 90's how many voices I had. I told her I didn't know the answer. I still don't, but I'm sure the number continues to grow.
Let's find out together.
My Training
I have a BA in Communications and English (double major) from Coker College, Hartsville, NC. This included film and audio courses as well as scriptwriting. I have 2+ years of On-Air experience, including hosting a local public affairs program and reading news and ad copy for broadcast. In the late 90's, I took a voice over course with Don Kobeila (an established VO actor) and have tried to break into the VO business since then.
My Studio Equipment
I work with Adobe Audition with a Plantronics Mic/Headset.
Additional Skills
I have practiced reading advertising copy, prose (novels and non-fiction) materials and feel that I can perform for ads, narrations and other voice over projects.
