I have done singing for church, for plays, and for musicals such as a local production of Rodger's and Hammerstein's "Oklahoma!" I have done voice recordings for my own job at T-Mobile to be used for training videos and work modules also. I am also in the process of getting training from Bill DeWees, a very well known voice-over talent in the industry.
I have done some college courses, primarily English Literature and rhetoric oriented. The rhetoric classes certainly gave me a perspective of how to bring your own personality and passion to a higher level, to project your own enthusiasm to a crowd or audience. It also taught me to use rhetoric effectively for persuasion or for "commercial" purposes such as bandwagon techniques, etc. I have also had a lot of history in drama, specifically plays such as "The Wind of a Thousand Tales", musicals such as "Oklahoma!", reader's theater at a competition level for Harry Potter novels, poetry recitation at a competition level, speeches, etc. I have done journalism as a free lance writer for the local Chattanooga newspaper (Chattanooga Times Free Press), and for the UTC college newspaper (The Torch).
Simple stuff right now. I am building my arsenal, so to speak. I have simple audio equipment such as a webcamera and an external computer microphone right now. I use a basic sound recorder to record my current voice overs and to upload them to my computer. I will have more later! :)
I am very intellectual when it comes to character development, doing a live reading of any books (for audio book purposes) or even poetry. I have worked with developing a sort of "Coffee House" technique specifically for recitation purposes to give that warm, comfortable atmosphere for audiences.
