My Voice Experience
As a professional VO talent and actor (AFTRA/Screen Actors Guild/Actor's Equity) for many years in Los Angeles, I have been pleased to have worked on various jobs: as a spokesperson for a national health association, also a paper company, voiced radio and tv campaigns for hospitals and fitness centers and a myriad of commercials from Harley Davidson to local casinos, to several educational institutions, also narrating travel videos, and even a video tour for an Air and Space Museum. In Vancouver, I read for the Blind at UBC and my reading of " To Kill a Mockingbird" was, for many years, their most requested book worldwide. I recently did a VO for a Halloween Haunted House!
I've also done voiceovers in many independent films, features and shorts. I am involved with Tsunami Radio Theatre and regularly perform numerous characters in every piece we do (comedies and drama). I have won the Best Actress Award three times for my work with the group.
"The Sign of the Salamander" is an audiobook that I narrated. Recently it was named the 2008 Gold Medal Winner- First Prize for Audiobooks-in the Moonbeam Children's Book Awards.
I recently taught a class about Audiobooks at UCLA and continue to be very active in the VO community! I was on the Advance Team for the VOICE 2008 convention in L.A. and this last in June, 2010. I moderated the VO panel at the SAG Conservatory's Summer Seminar at the American Film Institute this Summer.
I have recently moved to Charlotte,North Carolina and looking to expand my horizons and re-connect with my Southern roots!
My Training
Originally from North Carolina, I attended Chatham Hall ( Chatham, VA) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I was a Theatre and English major. I also studied theatre at Finch College and spent a summer at Western Washington University in Bellingham doing Summer Stock. I have performed in theatre all over the country and worked as an actor in London with Anglo-American Workshops.
I lived in NY for several years and started VO there when I was also involved in advertising, first as a casting director and then as a national commercial and industrial producer. I also wrote two newspaper columns for several years and worked at a newspaper and speechwriter in Washington,DC.
Now in Los Angeles, I have taken VO workshops at the SAG Conservatory at AFI-Bob Bergen, Bill Holmes,Janet Wilcox, Danny McBride among others, and studied most recently with Pat Fraley, Stefan Rudnicki, and Gabrielle de Cuir. It was my pleasure to be invited to present at the Audio Publisher's Conference in LA for their Narrator's track.
I am currently President of Women in Theatre and know my years of theatre experience adds to my voice actor skills...not just to be a "pretty voice," but one who can deliver what you need with consistent delivery and characterization skills.
My Studio Equipment
I have a professional state-of-the-art home studio used for VO, commercials, and films. I have a Whisper Room and we use Sennheiser 416, Lawson, and Rode and MXL mics. We use Pro Tools and Final Cut Pro and can convert files to mp3, wav or aiff. I also have an extensive music library and SFX.
Additional Skills
As a producer, I know the importance of meeting deadlines. I am professional, take direction well, am very adaptable, easy to get along with, and want to provide you with whatever your voice needs may be. I am also a skilled writer and can help with your copy if you'd like.
For fun, I knit. I also love good movies and books that make you think. I play the flute, piano and guitar and am trying to learn the mandolin. I am fascinated with contemporary society, and, likewise, am very grateful for opportunities that come my way.
