Voice Description

My voice has elements of a mom who reads to her children every night for years and years. Reading with enthusiasm and emphasis on the animal creatures and the characters in children’s books. The voice of the well read friend who helps someone read or pronounce a word that is a little out of their realm. My voice is the kind voice of an older female relative offering guidance and assistance. Roots of my dialect are in Mid-Atlantic Region and the hills of the Appalachian.

My Voice Experience

In creating the voices of the phone system for Papa John's Northeast Regional Office I made a few mistakes and had to re-do parts. This became funny as I sat at my desk saying the same name over and over again. I just wanted it to be perfect. I first noticed what a calm voice can do as a baby-sitter in my teens. I would sing looking up a grand staircase to sooth the children at the top of the stairs. My favorite song was Leo Koetke's "May you never lay your head down, without a hand to hold".

My Training

As of this writing I am not yet a professional voice-over character. When I listen to commercials, there are times when the voices are extremely, irritatingly incongruent with the objective of the ad. For example, a teen with no emotion is supposed to be the voice of a concerned parent? Of course, I may not be able to be the absolute best voice talent, but, with some patience, I intend to do the best possible. I have always heard the subtle voices on the airwaves and judged their character, good or bad. I t is very distracting to have voice with no feeling.

Additional Skills

I have been a music person my entire life. I took a course in Piano in college and guitar on my own my entire adult life. My favorite artists include Lucinda Williams, Joan Baez, and Joni Mitchell... I haven't been confident enough to sing in front of people, but I can speak. I have been a phone counselor for La Leche League, (league of breast feeding mothers). As an office manager, telephone skills were a must. I have even answered a pizza delivery phone. Creativity is a way of life. Thank you for your consideration.
