My Voice Experience
When I was a kindergartener, my dad, a PR guy, gave me my first opportunity in radio by casting me in a commercial as a cub scout. I thank him for giving me my start, whatever. The voice over jobs that I have done through the years span the spectrum from commercials to real estate online tours to political ads to museum exhibit narrations. However, the most fun are always the character jobs, from Granny Clampet to the hyper suprise party spoiler to the recorded greeting drone.
My Training
My first theatrical experience was as Gretel in a 2nd grade production of Hansel and Gretel. Since then, I've performed in more than 40 productions. I studied acting, singing, dancing, and communications at both Syracuse University and Penn State University. In 1987, I co-founded Tapestry Theatre Company in Wilmington, North Carolina, and we staged five productions a year for a strong decade. Not only was I Development Director for the company, but I acted in and directed numerous productions. In 1996, I accepted a job as production manager for a radio station, charged with producing all of the commercials, many of which I voiced myself. This led to my voicing commercials for the local television stations which meant going physically to the studio to record. I moved on from this position but maintained a relationship with my successors and with the TV production staff, continuing to provide voice over services. Upon the advancement of email capabilities, I set up an in-home studio, and began to do business by email. As local production personnel moved on to bigger markets, they kept my contact information, and my client base grew and continues to grow, mainly by referrel. I have clients now in cities throughout the United States. Through my affiliations, Recently, I have voiced commercials for companies like Basset Furniture Direct, Toyota, Cavalier, and Mills Jewelers. I am the voice for Oklahoma's News-on-Six weather promos, and I am the on-hold messaging voice for our local Time Warner Cable.
My Studio Equipment
In my studio, I use a Superlux CM-H8A condensor microphone that goes through a BlueTube PreSonus preamp into my computer, and I edit using Adobe Audition.
