My Voice Experience

Genworth Financial – Lynchburg, VA
1996 to Present - Produces and edits in multiple formats (.wav, .mp3, etc.) all of the Genworth voice menus and prompts for the telephone system (Avaya PBX), the IVR (Interactive Voice Response units), voicemail systems and long distance carrier network menus for all of the domestic USA Genworth Financial locations as well as coordinates production of the Spanish menu prompts. Provides audio commentary for various corporate video presentations including PowerPoint and Brainshark Presentations, On-Line Web Tutorials and Virtual Tours.

WSET TV, ABC 13 – Lynchburg, VA
1998 to Present – Provides voice-over talent and audio production/editing for various commercial advertisements, and promotional spots.

My Training

My name is Steve Mann, and I have been involved in voice-over work for most of my life. I got my start in 1982, as a producer and part-time deejay at a local 3,000 watt radio station in Lynchburg, and showed an early aptitude for audio commercial production. Through the 80's, I deejayed for several local radio stations, in part because it was the only way to gain access to various production studios where I could indulge my creativity. Early in the 90's a new door opened up for me. Television! When the FOX network was just getting off the ground, I began lending my voice to various promotional spots and commercials at the local affiliate.

In 1991 I began what many folks like to call “a real job” for a major Life Insurance Company. I never abandoned my voice work during this period, however, which was always my first love. I always wanted to have at least one foor in that door, in case a golden opportunity ever came along. As fate would have it, that opportunity knocked at the door to the Insurance Company. The Telecomm department needed a single voice that would serve as the company's vocal identity, whenever clients or agents called in. After auditioning, I snagged the assignment. For over a decade, my voice was heard on every phone system in every Genworth Financial office throughout the country and in the overseas offices as well.

In addition to all of the telecommunications work, I also periodically lend my voice to slide shows, PowerPoint and Brainshark presentations, on-line web tutorials, and more. I'm still heard on many television commercials throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well.

It's great work, and lots of fun too. I can't imagine doing anything else!
