Voice Description
Many years ago a friend said that I would get credit for "sound effects" when they ran the credits on his life. I perform a wide range of British Isles dialects (Oxford upper-class, Cockney, Cornwall, Liverpool, Scots, Irish, pirate, etc.) along with the standard American regional voices. You wouldn't know that I've lived in New Jersey all my life...unless I choose to speak "like dat." My voice has been variously described as "a tenor-baritone full of rich intonation and an amazing level of expression", "able to reach the back of a crowded room without shouting", and "oh my God will you please shut up." I pride myself on my diction and often practice by reciting Tennyson with huge mouthfuls of peanut butter.

My Voice Experience
Although I have pursued public speaking at every opportunity, often to the detriment of my career and my relationships, my actual voice talent experience is somewhat limited. As a department manager at a Toys R Us store, I recorded a promo for the DVD release of one of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies in full pirate dialect that was played over the store speaker system every fifteen minutes for a month, and our store set a record for reservation sales for that film. I also performed the closing announcements, and I continue to do so at my current job. I play a variety of online and in-person role-playing games, which often call for extemporaneous speaking to large groups: I have no fear of making a complete fool of myself under such circumstances. These experiences, and having so many people come up to me afterwards with encouragement, that drove me to Voice123.
My Training
I blame Dad. My father was very active in our community as I was growing up, leading the Scouts and playing Santa Claus and speaking at a variety of civic functions. HE'S the one who should be applying his magical baritone to the voice-over industry...but hell, I guess I'll have to fill in for him. From a young age I was coached to see public speaking as an opportunity to shine, a chance to use my powers for the good of all humanity. I did some acting in high school and in college and sang for two years in New Jersey All-State Chorus.
Since departing the tender embrace of the educational system, I have not stopped talking. I've worked as a teacher and attended seminars where introducing oneself to the panel is only the beginning of one's verbal participation.
