My Voice Experience
For as long as I can remember I have never been normal. I am not usually described as the girl who has always fit in or a dime a dozen. I have always been different, particularly through my voice. Besides my physical attributes such as hair color, eyes, height, body weight, or facial features, I believe my voice is what sets me apart from the rest. Since I could speak, I was always doing impersonations, singing funny songs, or just speaking from the perspective of another person/creature/animal/cartoon character. I used it to cheer up my friends, act in school plays, make funny school projects, and record CDs for my friends. Although I have not had much professional work, my voice has been used in audio tapes for the blind and dyslexic. I record at the University of Georiga at the Center for the Blind and Dyslexic. This corporation promotes learning through listening, and I volunteer there weekly to help those with my voice. Not only does it help those in need, but I can also use different voices and accents while recording the audiobooks. It is an amazing experience, and I am so grateful that I can use my talents to help others. My voice has always been different, and I hope to see my voice used on a greater level someday.
My Training
I earned my high school degree from Milton High School, where I graduated in May 2008. I am currently a third year at the University of Georgia with plans to graduate in May 2012. In high school, I took both performing arts classes and drama classes. My college experience is mostly within Reading For the Blind & Dyslexic, where I record audio tapes for those who have reading and seeing disabilities.
My Studio Equipment
I currently have a microphone and basic recording software, with plans to soon purchase a firewire digital recording interface and a microphone pop filter.
Additional Skills
I am currently a research assistant for a speech communications graduate student at the University of Georgia. I have excelled in the previous speech communication classes I have taken, including interpersonal and public communication. I speak very clearly and concisely, and I can morph my voice to have the right emotions, feeling, and expressiveness required for many recording jobs. Furthermore, recording audiobooks for many hours helps to build up my experience and stamina while maintaining a constant voice and being consistent.
