Stanley Davis

dry humorous, multi-accents, mild/intense,musical

Voice Description

I come from the midwest, originally, but have moved around a lot since my early 20s, including, living in Holland for 4 1/2 years. I am an accomplished singer, able to modify my voice, which is naturally baritone. I can present content in a "dry" manner, and also have a wide range of emotions via delivery (ending "up" or "down" at the end of sentences or phrases). I can deliver a "husky" voice,"cultured voice," Irish-style,
country "twang," and can improvise--a by-product from over four decades as a professional musical and MC performer. Style is definitely "situational."
Much of my Colorado voice work could follow this type of day: am & early afternoon, amplified directives for large video and photo shoots (also recorded original dialog), early eve, MC a nitely show at a "Western-themed" "Chuckwagon" dinner theater seating 1,000 people, then performing music, doing comedy sketches and directing the band, while playing bass (seven years straight), late eve. performance and MC of original jazz at a variety of venues--once again, "improvising" content to fit the situation--usually quite relaxed. The Chuckwagon involved a "Western Cowboy (i.e. Southwest U.S.) dialect (not country). Thye video work involved all sorts of dialects, intonation, articulations and accents. Having lived in Europe, my natural dialect is smooth and articulate.

various U.S. East Coast dialects.
flat, midwestern
"hip"...shades of beatnick and urban
'60s/'70s "hippie"...laid back

Extremely Precise
I don't do specific (i.e. well-known actors, etc.), but
do have a wide range that "implies" characters. I've been a licensed music therapist since '72, and have spent a lot of time reading & storytelling to children. I taught remedial reading for awhile and have a natural grasp of speech, diction and effect. From "slurring" to "precision," I can usually find the right "voice."
Breating differently, provides a lot of variations, plus decades on-stage, in both large and small venues, pluse many years of studio work have greatly influenced my abilities. I lived for a period in New York (village, Long Island, Upstate), Conn. (western), Europe, the midwest, Colorado, U.S. southwest and have travelled and done a lot of radio in foreign countries. I speak fluent Dutch (Afrikaneers, Flemish, etc.)
I write a lot of material and copy and have many recordings done over the years.

My Voice Experience

I did my first commercial in 1968 for a "hippie" clothing store in Manhattan, Kansas
By 1971, I did national radio commercials for Cheap Jeans, Sprite, Event Promotions and various radio drama....studied radio drama (old-style) with virginia Howe.
I did numerous video and film voice-overs in Colorado, while working for "Photos by Dill," including YMCA, Fellowship of Christian athletes' training videos, family history documentary projects, television shows (regional).
Often, this period involved long presentations (up to 1 1/2 hours).
More recently, I have done radio commercials when working for Ely Radio LLC, a seven-station "network" of stations in colorado, New Mexico and Nevada. I often wrote script, original music scores, did voice-overs and edited/produced the product. I have a studio in my home, where I can do most of these type presentations....MIDI, analog, DAT, Mastering decks, external burners. I play bass (primary instrument), keyboards, guitar and sing. i work a lot with Cakewalk, combining it with live tracks from my Yamaha AW 16G workstation/mixer/recorder.
