Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

I frequently practice at accents such as the following: British- "Freshen up your drink Govna?!", Italian- "Mama Mia!", Chinese- I think I do a good impersination of an old Chinese man, Western (the old west), Southern Belle, and Latina (this can include slang and street talk). I also practice at character voices and can imitate some well known animated TV characters. My favorites and some of my best are characters from 'The Simpsons': Ned Flanders, Rod & Todd Flanders, Ralph Wiggum and Troy McClure.

My Voice Experience

My previous experience in the voice over field has not been extensive, but was certainly a good starting point and excellent learing experience. I was in college when I took some classes on performing for Radio, Television and Film. We learned how to read scripts, adapt our voices depending on the material and then use the provided equipment to record ourselves for commercials and public service announcements. It wasn't until very recently that I have been able to get back into this type of work and I enjoy every minute of it.

My Training

The majority of my college studies were focused on Communications and Performing Arts. I took classes for performing for radio, television and film. A large part of these studies focused on voice training as far as projection, clarity, feeling and delivery. I had Drama and Acting classes that helped in the development of different character voices and the utilization of accents. I also took Creative Writing and Journalism classes that gave me the tools to create my own scripts and ideas that were to be used in my other performing classes.
