Voice Description

Born and raised in England, but living in Los Angeles since 2000, my specialties include 'Queens English' BBC Announcer, authoritative and passionate Wildlife Documentarian and offbeat Monty Python-esque nuttiness. As a long-time musician specializing in vocal harmonies I am extremely adept at adapting the tone and timbre of my voice to suit the material, and can range from low, dark and menacing to bright, friendly and fun. As well as a very authentically over-the-top French accent I can do a large number of regional British dialects including Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, London/Cockney, Scottish and Irish.

My Voice Experience

I have been a professional musician my entire working life, specializing in vocal harmonies but also playing bass guitar, piano, acoustic and electric guitar, keyboards and accordion. I was a member of a band signed to Universal Records in the late 90s and have also worked as a studio engineer in well-known Los Angeles studios. During this time I did many 'spots' for radio and other promotional media, and learned to manipulate my voice accordingly. In addition, I have worked for a well-known Santa Monica music supervision and licensing agency writing and recording commercials, and am also a successful fiction writer, having recently had a screenplay optioned. I have been making my living from my voice, one way or another, for 15 years.

My Training

I have a BA in Philosophy from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland. I also studied Theater and Media during my 4 years at this University. As an avid amateur dramatist I have attended many workshops and seminars focused on voice projection and manipulation.

Additional Skills

I am extremely diligent and professional, putting my all into every project I do. I believe my experience in the music, advertising and film industries gives me the advantage of understanding every aspect of voice over work from the ground up. It's something I love to do, both because it gives me the opportunity to invent expressive characters and because, as a new stay-at-home Dad, it allows me to get to know my boy. Cheesy? Maybe? Sentimental? Definitely. But true.
