Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
I am a native Spanish speaker (Colombian) and native English (American) speaker. I learned German because I have been in Germany for 9 years but of course I have an accent and many compliment me here on my accent, some either find it sweet and others somewhat sexy, hard to say about German. I guess it has to do with the mixture of the spanish and english that goes into the mix.The dialect that I speak with German is Schwäbish or it can also be Hoch Deutsch if called for in the script.
My Voice Experience
I started out doing voiceovers for commercials locally in Chicago for my Dad´s restaurant in 1984 while I was attending Columbia College. I also wrote the script for the commercials that I recorded, spliced and dubbed at the studio. I then had my own radio show when I moved to Fort Myers Fl.I worked on-air as the only voice on the show and I sold commercial minutes to local business, I wrote out the commercials and taped them to be broadcast during the show which was a music show on Saturdays on an am station in 1991-2.
Since then I must say I have not professionally done anything but I sometimes play with script or I repeat commercial lines to see how I would sound or how I would do it differently.
I am a stay at home mom wanting to reestablish myself in this field and would love any chance I get at starting a carreer in this field again. I would really like to produce a cd that teaches children spanish, and the translations would either be in english or german, I really see a need for it.
I would also like to do commercials.

My Training
I do not have a college degree in this field but when I was in College my teacher always gave me great compliments.
I learned by doing when I was taping the commercials for my Dad´s restaurant, I was 18 and with the knowledge I was aquiring at Columbia College I was making the best of it.
My major was broadcasting with a minor in journalism.
My Studio Equipment
I do not have any mixers or a sound studio, I thought about converting a small room I have into a small production room so that I could produce voiceovers from there. I thought the investment in soundproofing the room plus the investment in microphones, headphones, accustic panels the reverb machine, recording, dubbing,sound effect and mixers would be too high an investment for a project that had no clients.
Additional Skills
I have worked as a telemarketer and have waitressed, these two jobs require that you put on a smile to sound convincing, friendly, and honest. I have also worked in the import export business where seriousness and friendliness in the voice is a must.
I lastly went to school to become a cosmetologist and makeup artist, I spoke all day long, which is not hard for me. I needed to sell and be convincing at all times. I used my honest, my sincere, my educated, my funny, my sad, my angry, my hurt voice everyday. As a hairstylist you must keep your clients happy and captivated (well I guess I am different) I have always used my skills as a great communicator in any field that I have worked in, and it has always helped me.
