My Voice Experience

Did multiple voice-over engagements while being contracted with an advertising firm in Phoenix called Creative Design. Largest client was USWest Communications where I recorded appx. 2 hrs of script that was then put behind a full interactive media kiosk used to launch their entire new small business line of products and services. This engagement was great due to its span of elements and moods that had to be reflected in the voice. Upon completion, the touch-screen interactive kiosks were put into numerous Office Depot retail locations and allowed for small business owners to review and order products and services from the kiosk. Other engagements included City of Scottsdale tourist information recordings for their chamber of commerce, Samaritan Health Systems patient orientation information via CCTV for patients in the hospital.

Currently working on Web-based training recording for Merit Systems in PA for client, Hitachi Data Systems. This is a multiple unit engagement for HDS Products. This will include up to 300 pages of narrative script which I will record dry vocal in my studio and send to Merit Systems for post production and final mix.

Currently negotiating with other clients including large telecom firm in Dallas for IVR services. Also, working on initial terms for marketing firm handling Walt Disney Corporation.

My Training

College was focused initially around going into medicine but due to cost, time, and other opportunities that were facing me, shifted focus to Information Technologies, which I have spent 20+ yrs in holding numerous positions in support, sales, and management.
In my work in IT, it required me to be in front of large groups of people doing presentations and leading discussions. As such, I was always being asked if I worked on the radio due to my voice and speaking ability. After answering that question for years with a frustrated 'no', I decided to explore the opportunity and that is what led me to my first job in voice work. I enrolled in voice-over and script reading/acting training at Barbizon in Phoenix to learn the finer points of voice inflection, pace, style, etc. Voice over has been a hobby until 2008 at which time, I decided to take it on and start my own company.

My Studio Equipment

I currently have my own studio which is a fully enclosed, sound dampened room used only for my recording. I use and Shure SM7B microphone as it best handles my voice and has the low frequency capabilities along with dynamic clarity to handle my voice and reproduce it very well. I also use the MBox along with ProTools LE 8 for recording and mixing. My primary computer is an HP dv1245dx large display, dual core AMD processor. All data is backed up and maintained on separate hard drive.
I use a dedicated high-speed fiber cable modem connection to the internet for sending all completed files to clients. I will be adding ISDN capabilities within the coming months as well.

Additional Skills

First and perhaps most important is my absolute focus on making sure that my clients feel comfortable with me, my capabilities, and the level of quality they can expect from me. Also, I am passionate about people and work diligently to make sure they are completely satisfied with my finished product. My intent is to create clients that want to utilize me over and over not only because of my voice, but also because of the level of comfort and good relationship we have created.
I currently work part time as a contract technical instructor for a high-tech sales company. This role puts me in front of a very wide variety of people and requires me to speak to them for days while maintaining their interest, keeping them involved, and never letting them become board. This work keeps my speaking sharp, dynamic, and 'tuned'.
Lastly, I truly love my work in voice over. I get real joy and satisfaction from what I do. It has provided me with a true love for my job which few are fortunate to ever experience.
