My Voice Experience
I originally wanted to be a country and folk singer and used to write alot of music thinking I would head to Nashville someday. I never pursued that dream, but one day while driving down a beautiful road in Mendocino County, I heard an invitation to learn how to become a public radio volunteer and host/produce a radio show. I jumped at the chance and was in my prime, I felt and ready to do this. That was in about 2001- for KZYX and Z, in Philo, CA. I hosted/produced a show called Metate( means "grinding stone). I did a monthly show and also learned how to produce breaking local and Native American news stories- receiving more all expenses paid training in Anchorage, Alaska with KNBA Radio station/National Native News.
Volunteered: 2001-2003-KZYX & Z Radio Station:
Public radio station: 90.7/88.3/91.5 FM
Program Manager: Mary Aigner firstname.lastname@example.org
Community News: Annie Esposito (retired- but I can use her as a reference)
In 2004, I found out, through doing radio stories that I was a descendant of the Swinomish Indian Tribe in La Conner, WA. I moved to my ancestors homelands and was able to volunteer at a college radio station and started doing weekly shows( NAMAPAHH First People's Radio-2 hour public affairs and music show-Native American and First Nations issues and focus)) to twice a week shows at KSVR/Skagit Valley College Community Radio. We were listened to locally and also streaming, but not on a regular bases.
( more details later, left KSVR to do blogtalk radio around 2008)
Wanting to be able to build a listenership and reach a border audience- I signed up for blogtalk radio & through this company, not only can I broadcast locally and all across the world, but my shows are archived.
