I've been working in media sales for the past thirteen years for Canadian Network Broadcasting promoting P.S.A.'s on radio. During each sales pitch I read the script word for word to the potential client to let them hear what their company message will sound like on radio. This has given me a great deal of experience in practicing my radio voice. Being able to read the script effectively is the biggest selling point in these types of sales. In my time with this company I've done the occasional voice over as a favour to a client. You can hear one of them on our company web site-cnbmedia. Click on 'sample messages' and go to sample #4 which was an impaired driving prevention campaign that I recorded on 680 News radio. The client was Ron Mitton Tire Sales.
I've never attended any classes or workshops in regards to voice over work. Most of my experience has been with the media company that I'm currently employed with. Prior to this I worked for two years in sales for an advertising company that promoted community fundraising events such as the Old Timers Hockey Game and the Shrine Circus. This involved ticket sales to companies and selling advertising in the souvenir programs. This type of work also gave me much practice in developing my voice presentation.
I'm able to record demos on an MP 3.
In addition to the experience mentioned previously, I've worked at a few other sales jobs where having a clear and powerful voice is an asset in being succesful.
