Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
I like to think I could pull off any accent, given a chance at hearing it. As an actor it has always been my favourite thing to play as wide of range of different characters as possible.
I have a pretty good ear for most accents though am great with : Australian, American, British dialects - Irish, Scottish, English cockney, English posh, English midlands, French, Russian, Eastern European, Japanese, Chinese, Afrikaans, African, West Indian, Italian.
Most accents I do stem from the character I create, so therefore it's unlimited really. I have always hoped to specialize in animation/video game voices, but my geographical location meant that wasn't really an option.
My Voice Experience
Most of my previous voice-over experience has come in radio ads I did with musician Laurence Chetty in Cape Town, South Africa (Laurence is now based in Beijing, China); and for videos produced by local companies, or by the video production company I am involved with.
I also did all voice over work for my feature length movie, A BLOODY STAGE.
My Training
I am a trained actor with almost twenty years experience in the business, having performed in over a hundred stage shows, tv productions and movies. After early training at the Robin Williams (not that one!) Drama Studio in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, I went on to study at the Waterfront Theatre School in Cape Town. Though from 1994 I was a full time professional actor. I have also furthered my studies as a filmmaker, editor, writer and director, attending numerous courses and workshops over the past 15 years. In 1999 I also qualified as a digital designer at Hirt and Carter. In 2003 I wrote, directed and edited (and did v/o work) the feature length movie, A Bloody Stage.
I currently am a partner in a small production company, The Entertainment Factory, based in Cape Town, where we pretty much doing related to the media industry.
My Studio Equipment
Currently, I have a Macintosh-based studio (4 macs), though its main focus is on video production. Though we do record sound, and have done a lot of work just using Garage Band/Soundtrack or Final Cut Pro, most of my voice-over work has been done in local studios.
Additional Skills
Well, there's nothing really I won't try do, especially with regards to acting and voice acting. I have very good comedic timing, can work quickly, and I have a "no worries" attitude to most jobs.
I am pretty knowledgeable on a number of subjects, especially with regards to pop culture, movies, sports (tho to be fair not really American sports), video games (PS3, 360, Wii, PSP - I'm a gaming nut). I'm a big fan of cartoons, and most animated productions, with a special focus on the great work by voice actor and writers whether it be Disney (like Phineas and Ferb, or the brilliant Patrick Warburton as Kronk, or numerous celeb guest appearances) or in some of my favourite video games like Mass Effect or Fable II.
Most importantly I like to laugh, and to make others laugh. I like to think I can add the fun element to most jobs. But if it's already there, all the better...
