Voice Description

I offer a flexible, friendly style. I am not " Mr. Radio". Although comfortable with the role of 'the announcer', I am most often used as the everyman authority. I have the ability to lift a script off the page, and more importantly convey the message in ways that will motivate the lister to action.

My Voice Experience

There’s a rhythm that happens on a busy street. Most of us hear only the noise of the traffic; a horn honks, a siren races past. Then there are those who hear things differently. They live for sound. They play with sound like a kid in a sandbox. They hear the tszzz, tszzz, tszzz of a high-hat as the tires go by in the rain. They chop sound up into little bits and bytes and make whole new sounds from the old sounds. They hear things that we don’t even know we can’t hear. They sing “testing, one, two, three” in their dreams.

Rob has those kinds of ears. Working with sound was an certainty. And from his work with sound came radio plays, and commercials, and live sound for on-location broadcasts in exotic locations, and some not so exotic; like the Russian folk choir in an old church basement.

And from working so long with sound, he hears words differently too, and does things with words that elude the studied, the practiced. Rob wrote corporate communications, promos, demos and radio spots with characters and situations and funny voices that shook up clients who had only ever experienced grocery lists, with “lot's of free parking” slapped on the end.

Sometimes the words combine with the Paboom! of a cannon fired over the drawbridge of a 17th century fort, or the skirl of bagpipes fading into the mist. Rob has created GPS driven multi-language audio tours for locations as diverse as London, Bermuda, Toronto and San Francisco.

In the hallways and classrooms of the B.C. Institute of Technology, Rob has shared his years of technical know-how, the importance of words, with the producer’s of tomorrow inspiring creativity and better communication.
