My Voice Experience

Richard I Baum
Stage Name: Richard Kelly

I was born, raised and educated in England and came to the United States in August 2001 and moved to Connecticut after my wife passed away in 2003 to make a fresh start.

I am passionate, outgoing, motivated, creative and communicative. I enjoy challenging situations. I am able to work on my own initiative and also as part of a team. I get great pleasure from meeting, talking and interacting with people especially with an audience be it on the radio or at a live show.

CURRENTLY
I recently appeared in a production of the Musical Entertainment ‘The Last Supper’ by The Maritime Ministry Players. It is based on a concept of how Leonardo Da Vinci struggled to find inspiration to paint his famous painting in The Monastery Santa Maria delle Grazzie. I played the lead role of Leonardo Da Vinci to immense critical and public acclaim and the play included appearances by ‘Jesus’ and all the Disciples as well as an ‘Angel’ and choir.

1993 - 2001
I joined CRMK 89.8 FM (Cable Radio Milton Keynes) broadcasting to over 50,000 homes in Milton Keynes England as a regular presenter on a magazine program initially with a technical operator. At that time Milton Keynes had the largest cable network in Europe. In May 1993 I passed their Technical Operators Course. This enabled me to ‘drive’ the desk and be responsible for all aspects of the show. I have produced and presented many varying formats including magazine shows with guest interviews, community information, what’s on in Milton Keynes and Job Spot, late night and early morning specialist music programmes and mid evening themed shows. I was also the film critic for the station. I have also DJ’d including presenting a Blues Night for a Bar and Restaurant and presented for various BBC local radio programs.

1986 - 2001
Freelance Presenter, Commentator, Compere, M.C. and ‘Man on the Mike’ in the Indoor and Outdoor Entertainment Industry. Includes Festivals, Galas, Carnivals, Outdoor Shows, Concerts, Corporate Events, Themed Nights, Radio and Television. I also presented and commentated for a wide variety of acts and artistes including specific engagements as detailed below:

1997 - 2001
In 1997 I was ‘headhunted’ by FireBird International Promotions to manage, run, present and be the ‘Man on the Mike’ for their various acts including Europe’s only All Girl Motor Cycle Stunt Team – The Auto Angels, The FireBird Illusions Magic Show, The FireBird Illusions Children’s Magic and Clown Show and The FireBird Cabaret – Songs, Magic and Comedy. Another major engagement during this period was being the ’Man on the Mike’ for The Motorcycle Madmen – a motorcycle stunt team featuring the Guinness Book of World Records Holder of the Longest Tunnel of Fire (180 feet corridor of burning straw) Motor Cycle Stunt Ride. Between 1996 and 2001 I also hosted the annual Council of Voluntary Organizations Annual Fund Raising Bazaar in Milton Keynes Shopping Mall with a live link to the radio station (CRMK).

1987 – 1997
I was engaged by Todd Cody’s Wild West Adventure Show featuring the first Bucking Bronco in the UK, Bunkum Booths, an Escape Artiste and Western Cabaret featuring Quick Draw, Rope Spinning, Whip Cracking and Knife Throwing. Apart from other duties with this show such as prop making, set up and strike down at events and corporate theme nights, my main public role was as Commentator, Presenter and ‘Man on the Mike’ utilizing a ‘Texan’ Accent in full Cowboy Outfit keeping the audiences informed and entertained and also the presenter and ‘Man on the Mike’ for Europe’s first female escape artiste escaping from a straight jacket suspended upside down 80 feet in the air from a crane.

1992
Summer Season with a Mediaeval Jousting Troupe – Black Knight Mediaeval Entertainments - as their Booking Agent, Organizer, Scriptwriter, Commentator, Presenter and ‘Man on the Mike’ albeit dressed as Merlin The Wizard! I organized and produced Mediaeval Themed Days for various Corporate Clients. Also during this year I was Compere, Commentator, M.C. and ‘Man on the Mike’ for the Jersey Channel Islands Trade Fair which included participation in a comedy routine and then M.C’ing a comedy high dive sponge plunger, who performed an 80 foot dive into a bag of sponges!

INTERESTS

Cinema, Reading, Writing, Creative Design, Producing Slideshows, Computers and Computer Based Graphical Design. In England I also created, designed, researched, edited and produced on my personal PC a 40 page full color quarterly magazine for a group of Mediaeval Re-enactment Enthusiasts.
