Voice Description
I was recently told that I could be a double for Keira Knightley in "Pride and Prejudice". I have a sweetness in my voice for an old-English traditional sound which can transpose to a more authoritarian sound when neccessary. Generally I sound lively, enthusiastic, soothing and intelligent. I am bi-lingual English/German and my German accent is a North German one, so the one favoured by newscasters and documentary voice-over work generally. I also speak good French with an accent that is not recognised as English but could be Belgian or regional. I speak Dutch, Thai and Japanese with a foreign enough accent that charms and intrigues native speakers of those languages

My Voice Experience
Having moved around the world a great deal, I have done a lot of language learning and teaching plus I have a musical background. Consequently I have a very good ear for language and have a lilting, musical tone to my voice.
I have had to make public speeches and have been a tour guide at the National Gallery of Australia, which meant that I had to use a clear, distinctive voice to keep audiences interested and to deliver sometimes complex information in a compelling and lively manner.
My Training
As a teacher, guide and public speaker, I have learned to use my voice as an instrument, taking care to breathe from the bottom of my lungs, use my diaphragm and enunciate with precision. This has been enhanced through singing training. I have learned most of skills "on the job", whether guiding a group of visitors in the art gallery or reading aloud to a group of pre-schoolers.

Additional Skills
Singing, playing piano and violin has meant that I am predominantely in an audio-visual world and that extends into the classroom, too. Several of my students have said how much they enjoy my classes because they can understand me very clearly in comparison to other teachers who may teach well but do not speak as clearly and precisely as I do.
My "voice" as a writer reflects the warm, humorous tone that people hear when they converse with me. Although I have an "upper-middle class" English accent , it is never perceived as snobby!
