Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
Character voices pop into my head. I call one "Freddy" rather high pitched from India maybe, the not-so smart guy/ Forrest Gump type, gruff Russian, German, Southern U.S.drawl, laid back cowboy, Paddy O'Hara the Irishman, Frenchman. Silly cartoon type voices are always possible.
My Voice Experience
Did you ever have a History teacher who lectured in a straight deadpan voice and then would carry on conversations between the people he was just telling you about? Bet you didnt.
My engaging conversational voice has a raw timber that captures the listeners ear. I can do a deadpan straight delivery on a script that is only mildly funny and make it hilarious. Then take it back to the deadpan guy I started out as like nothing unusual happened.
Character voices for material that others cant quite carry off seem to pop unexpectedly into my head. A nice thing to have happen when youre asked to supply voices for several different individuals, in a language you dont speak and keep a Southern U.S. drawl that you dont have. Germans from North Carolina, who'd have thought?
My Training
My V O training has been through the Such A Voice master class with Brian Thon as my coach, directer and mentor. I have stage production experience in both speaking and singing roles.
My Studio Equipment
I use ProTools 8 interface and speak into a Shure KSM27 condenser microphone. I listen through Sony MDR 7506 and Samson Media O-N-E 4a monitors not at the same time of course.
Additional Skills
Prior to doing V O work I was a History teacher. In attempting to keep my classes interesting I invented dialog that required different voices and accents. Public speaking has not been confined to classrooms. I've spoken in front of group tours in museums. You have to keep the crowds interest and make them want to stop at the gift shop. Sell those trinkets baby!
