Voice Description

I am a former Korean linguist with the military, so I have been exposed to a large number of languages. I have a facility for hearing and mimicing accents and voices. I can usually tell where people are from by listening to their voices. I have a number of "voices" that I use for affect in conversation and I have done phone work for Microsoft, IBM, Sun, and some other smaller companies. I have stage experience that has taught me how to use tone, timbre and pacing to scuplt a mental/emotional picture.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

I have an embarrasing knack of duplicating the accent of the person that I am speaking with unconsciously. I have to be on guard to not offend. I have informally categorized different american accents as well as british, french and korean. I have been exposed to and understand the phonetic structure of most European and Asian languages (though I have trouble with Viet) and with a little accent can phonetically reproduce most languages with a little coaching or a sample. One of my strong suits is banter and agile thinking, especially when I am shooting at humor. After reading a script, I can see what the central theme is and am able to form my speech to fit that theme. Some of my accents include many different American South accents (cajun, erudite south, bumpkin, minister), New England (Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Jewish), Californian (yuppie, valley) Russian (accent and some language), French (Canadian, Occidental and Senegalese accents and language), German (accent and some language), Italian (accent and some language), Spanish (castillian and american dialects and some language), Korean (accent and some language), Chinese (accent and small amount of language, multiple dialects), British/Australian/New Zealand. I can also look at or read about and create accents/characters on the fly. I have also tutored in classical Greek and Latin.

My Voice Experience

I have done some IVR work for a Microsoft subcontractor and assisted in the testing of voice recognition software. Phone sales and technical support are also strong features of my background

My Training

Mostly self taught in voice work but, I was trained to be a Korean Linguist with the USAF and I really enjoy languages and accents.
