Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
Broad North-American regional dialects, ranging from a flat mid-western Kansan accent, to a campy Texas drawl, to a California valley girl living it up in the sun. I have performed an over the top Irish brogue for a pub, and a very subtle English inflection for a high class sports car. Also a rather silly "Jersey girl" accent that cracks people up.
My Voice Experience
As "Helen Wheels", a traffic reporter for Citadel Broadcasting in Albuquerque NM for more than 9 years, I have to really work to develop different styles
and a range of personalities for commercials playing on our 8 station cluster. In addition to live commercial reads in each of my traffic reports each day I record :15, :30, and :60 second commercials, some times 3 or 4 in a week, and I have to make them sound quite different from my "everyday" voice. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to be able to audition for spots in many different styles, so the variety of roles I can play is quite broad. I have been very popular with clients who require a very professional approach to medical and technological reads. I am also a freelance writer and would dearly love the opportunity to do narrative or audio book reads.
My Training
I have been on-air for nearly 10 years in Albuquerque NM. I have been doing commercials since 1999. I enjoyed theater and drama studies during my high school career. I am also a fiction writer and would enjoy performing audio books.
My Studio Equipment
I work from my home studio with a standard recording computer, I use "Cool Edit Pro" and "cakewalk" programs to produce my own audio, but am conversant with professional recording studios too. I am familiar with TLC, and Audiovox trim and label system. I use a podcaster microphone in my home studio.
Additional Skills
Over the past eight years, I have been responsible for training and coaching a number of new traffic reporters for broadcast quality performances. In addition to my radio career I have a background of volunteer work including training phone bank workers for telethons.
