My Voice Experience
My first career was in theatre and television acting.I appeared in Gullivers Travels at the Mermaid theatre playing Glumdelclitch the giants daughter and also Peter Pan in the London production where I played the Indian princess and understudied Wendy.I toured with A Midsummers Night Dream playing Puck in the round and did a pre-west end tour of My Son's Father starring Gerald Harper,in which I played a precocious public schoolgirl spouting Marxist maxims.
,
Television work for the BBC included playing Rosina Hoblyn in Poldark for which I had to learn an Elizabethan Cornish accent with help from a dialect coach.I appeared in A Winter Warrior, a Jackanory Playhouse and appeared in The Rough with the Smooth with Tim Brooke Taylor and co.
Since having my children I have been teaching drama and voicework. As a language teacher I have specialised in pronunciation, particularly in rhythm and intonation.
I have recorded lots of listening practice materials for educational establishments.
My Training
My earliest training was in putting over copy to newspaper news desks for my parents who were freelance journalists working from home.My mother later did a lot of radio work in the US and she taught me a lot about using my voice.
As a teenager I worked on telephone switchboards and recorded answerphone messages for various companies before starting work in theatre and television.
At university in London I studied Communication and Media which involved some voicerecording and presenting and later at Cambridge studied Social and Political Science where I learned to give seminars.I worked as a teacher at Anglia Ruskin University giving lectures in Intercultural Communication and as an EFL classroom teacher and teacher trainer specialising in pronunciation.
